Porn in the group

I did a little research and I found some settings that might be helpfull in making it a little harder for the spammer/s on the forum.

Word censoring, either full word or partial.

Require email authentication by sending an authentication link.

Require a moderator to approve registration.

Ban members based on their username, email address, IP address or hostname.

then weekly andrew can delete the bunch and life goes on.

All brought up before...  Simple registration would curb the majority of it.  I participate in several forums.  All require registration except this one.  All are porn/spam free, except this one...

This last one with the pictures has really gotten me pissed. Evidently the moderator is running a porn site for his own entertainment. If he is too lazy to to take any action I suggest he get somebody who will. when you have somebody applying with a name like pornoguuaazz or an email address like xcrrcccrccjr@uganska.net you can bet they arent here to talk about anything but spam.

While we all appreciate the time you have just stated that you spend on site maintenance I think you may be missing the point.  We don`t want you to work harder, we are suggesting that there are ways in the software as supplied for you to work smarter.  You might actually spend less time on maintenance if you let the software keep messes from occuring in the first place then to cionstantly have to deal with and clean them up after the fact.

Some good ideas have been suggested.
One great idea I think is a first post probation. Not posted until it passes the acceptance reading of a moderator.  If it is porn, the new member (both username and IP) iis blocked, end of story.

Perhaps merely opening up control to a couple of well established members if they wish to volunteer as moderators with powers to delete spam would lessen your present work load with absolutely no other changes in the system.

I like this forum and take it as a personal affront when I see it shit upon by unsavory porn weilding scumbags.  I think this community we have here is worth protecting!

Depending whereabouts one is on the globe having a few folk with mod privs to delete spam when they see it might work out well.  I offered my services since I work in IT and *ahem* check the forum out pretty often.  I'm in the US Eastern time zone.  If we had one in the UK, one in the Eastern and one on the Pacific we'd pretty much have the place covered. 

The pages and pages of text are annoying but the stuff that got posted today is the kind of stuff you'd get fired from work if someone saw it.  definitely not cool.

Well It is yours do do with as you please, and we do very much appreciate the time and effort you put in to provide and maintain it.  But if the uncontrolled content drives away people who perhaps have something valuable to add to the discussions here, then what is the point?

i have been following this thread and avoided commenting because no matter what is said somebody will get upset.

obviously we should take reasonable precautions to avoid allowing the posting of materials offensive to any member.

i see nothing the moderators and controllers of this site are doing which is inviting this offensive material.  any members following the links will get their dose of virus which they will have to deal with.

no matter what precautions are taken, the porn distributors will defeat the precautions.  (we still need precautions).

to quit this forum because of this crap (which is everywhere on the internet anyway) is self defeating.

the blame doesn't lay in the laps of our moderators, administrators or controllers -  it's us, the users.  C'mon ,just  look at the subject and who posted it, most are pretty obvious- "they all rattle their tail telling you to Stay Away, or else you're gonna get bit;Don't get bit "

  For those wanting to help admin,  When you are logged in there is a spot labeled "report to moderator" near the bottom right corner of each post.  Just click on that and the moderator will be notified of the post and can check and block/exclude it all.  This can be done by anyone, no need for special permissions.
