Belleghuan 12/2
« on: May 19, 2007, 02:08:38 AM »
Finally i made power......wooohooo
4 hour run...5000 to 7000 watts...intermittantly
190 to 195 cooling temp...
exhaust within 8 degrees of each other....
added an extra muffler to each cylinder 3.5 hours into the run...(now the belt slapping is the loudest noise you can hear from the nieghbours)
no smoke from exhaust yet..
Then it ran outta fuel...

Happyness is a warm diesel.....

I ran mine for 12 hours to  the delight of my wife and kids

HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY is hearing your slow speed diesel providing your power while all around you is dark and cold

Sometime this summer, I will swap out the 6/1 for a 10/1 and enjoy the extra KW that will provide, mine are Belleghuan's too

So youn live close to Ottawa??  I'm in Navan, not far from JohnF

Managed to get the washer, dryer, and water pump working together today...
Governor seems to be the next thing to work on....
Then to get a coil installed in the cooling tank to recover the heat for the washer...
Hopefully this will make laundry day more fun....

Getting off the grid slowly in muskoka....
Cheers

24.9 hours of laundry...
41 litres of diesel...
after 16 hours of run time the coolant system overheated.....was a much warmer day...
I wound 22 ft of 1/2 copper pipe into the coolant tank...then fed the water for the washer through the coolant tank...
The cycling of the washer on and off cooled the tank...and raised my wash water by 24F...
Changed the oil..
Only about a tsp of metal mud stuck to the sump magnets..
And one small sliver of metal stuck to the magnet on the plate cover..
After wiping out the insides the rag had a dusting of small brass flakes...
Everything seems to be working great...
Havent thought of a name for the engine yet....its seems to want to be called Exxon Valdis

Congrats on yet another new way of using one of these engines.  Preheating wash-water.  Why not?

Re: the magnet, I recently bought a Kawasaki 250 (Ninja) for riding to work.  New, 3500 out the door and about 70 mpg.  Did the first oil change the other day and was surprised to see that the oil had a pearly metallic sheen.  Suspended aluminum particles!  Too bad they don't make aluminum magnets.

Probably some steel in there too as I believe the engine and gearbox share the same oil supply.  I have an antique Honda XL-250 (1973) and it has some aluminum and steel parts.  The oil always has that pearlescent look to it from the minute metal particles.  I don't run a magnetic drain plug in it but I do change the oil fairly frequently.  It's just a fun bike to ride around the neighborhood with.

Don't get me started.  I had half a dozen 350s of that vintage.  Bought them cheap, rebuilt them, rode them for a while, then sold them when I found another.   ;D

Tugger:
That is a Class Act!!!!! I especially like the fence and lifting beam set-up! Real sweet.
Just one question though?
Shouldn't the water pipes berunning at an upwards slant to the tank?
AND NO, I DO NOT WANT TO START A WAR ABOUT COOLING SYSTEMS!!!!
I'm not asking anything, I'm just asking.

Both the hot and cool lines run uphill to the tanks..(parallel to one another)...
I wondered if the bottom was supposed to be flat or downhill...but parallel seems to work..
Im hoping to find an old car or truck hood to go over the top of the beam and cover the engine and gen. head...
