Why ST head is called ST????

Really dumb question guys. How ST head got its name. I mean there could be other names but why this specific type is called ST head regardless of manufacturer???

well it has localized names everywhere for example over here in Pakistan, it simply called generator and in Saudi Arabia its called a motor. But in wide arena, its usually refered to as ST head.. !!! I have come to conclusion

ST = Simple Technology

  It's a good thing they named it the 'ST' because that's what everybody calls them.       ;)

In China a lot of the industry evolved from military applications. The ST is their version of our "military standard" parts. It doesn't matter who made them, they are designed to be replaced by any manufacturer within the "standard". The same goes for many other Chinese products as well, from engine parts to electrical contactors.  Some companies are going away for this standard as the Chinese economy progresses.

Must be nice to live a country where standard part means its name.

I could also live with standard tooth paste, standard car that doesn't burn too much gas and rusts in 10 years lol. So much take for granted is not standard anything and designed to be junked. My sister inlaw from Ukraine told me you had standard or spares for everything you just couldn't find them when you needed it more oftern than not....
