listeroid working on BI-FUEL, diesel/LPG mixture.
« on: May 06, 2007, 02:23:40 AM »
Hi,

I am new in this forum. I have a large experience working standard diesel engines with a diesel - LPG mixture (40% diesel - 60% propane). I can report about  25 to 35% in the fuel bill, producing the same energy (KW/H) compared with plain diesel fuel. It works in any direct injection engine, I have this system installed on two cummins 6CT, one cummins 6BT and one yanmar TF-140. My next proyect is to install a new prototype system on a LOVSON 8/1.

Are you introducing it as liquid or vapor?

vapor of course, throw the air inlet stream. the LPG is proportional to the engine load, measured by the generator power output.

A little propane is said to improve combustion, not sure what you gain a lot without a turbo.......

Hi,

The point using LPG is: the LPG not only improve the combustion quality (5 - 10% of diesel is exausted unburned in a normally aspirated engine), and when you use this mixture, you are replacing the diesel BTU's by a cheaper (at least in my country: Dominican Republic) LPG BTU's.

another side advantage is: when you burn less diesel, you are adding less sulphur to your lube oil, preserving more the TBN and extending the oil life.

the objetives are:
1) improve the combustion eficiency of the diesel.
2) replace the 40 to 60 % of the diesel enery by a cheaper and cleaner fuel LPG.
3) extend the oil change intervals.

Hi
I am interested in how you regulate the propane.
A gas carb. linked to the injector pump rack?

hi,

the LPG is regulated as follow: you operate a solenoid valve throw a current relay (using a CT to sense the load), this solenoid permit the flow of the gas, calibrated by the respective presure regulator to the air inlet stream. the idea is to set the LPG inlet just when the machine is in the maximum compsumition point, replacing the diesel's energy by LPG.

the engine works quieter, drastically lower the combustion detonations. But this only have sense when the LPG is 50% cheaper than diesel. :-\

Will the system work using Autogas?

Sanches

In Australia, Autogas is the gas we use in automobiles

Ok phil,

that is the same gas, we use the LPG in the cars too. The diference is that the gasoline engines have proportional manifold pressure, the diesel are constant pressure, you can't use the car vaporizer, if you do so, the equiment will not able to regulate the gas flow.

when I was testing my first systems, first I tried introducing the gas manually, using a torch regulator to check the optimum level (when the engine sounds like unloaded), that can give a good idea of how much diesel can you replace by gas.
