I bought my trace in '98 for 2K and I think they could be had for a little less now.

Hi, Tom

Nope, no hum,  the only noise is from the occasional running of the integral fan (and I can't hear that from inside the house).

Jens, I paid about $1800 for mine 3 years ago.

Cheers, Fred

Jens,

It won't be cheap to get to 11kw but Outback allows for stacking up to, I think 10 units.  They can be stacked in series or parallel; including options for 208volt 3 phase. Check out their webpage; www.outbackpower.com, lots of information; including distributors (theres one in Victoria).

My friend whom I ordered engines with has a wind generator and an Outback grid-tie inverter.  He had some installation issues and more than a few questions- Outback was very helpfull.

Just a thought;  when I built my house I set up two breaker panels, one for everyday lower power consumption requirements (lights, fridge, entertainment, bedroom a/c, etc) and one for big draws like split A/C, washer/dryer, tools etc.  Right now the Outback runs the everyday side and Island power runs the other and charges the  batteries.  Once the listeroid is up and running I'll run it to charge batteries and when theres a need for the big a/c, wash clothes, or more demanding tools.

Hope to build a wind generator to take over most of the battery charging by years end.

Good Luck,

Cheers, Fred

Thanks Fred that is useful info!!!

Jens Outback has a 4 stack power center that will get you to 14.4 KW. I'm planning to buy this unit with 2 of their 3.6 kw inverters installed.

Looks like their HUB-10 product will take you up to 10 3.6kw inverters. Is 36kw enough?

ROFL ..... I just had a look on their web site under their 'bill of materials' document for a 20 kw system. $ 23000 US. Holy cow !

As we all know, electrical stuff runs on smoke.  When you let the smoke out the device doesn`t run anymore.  20,000 watts represents a lot of smoke that needs to stay bottled up!  The hardware to do this costs more.   ;D
