yanmar ts-50 C
« on: April 13, 2007, 01:58:05 AM »
Just got a Yanmar TS-50C water cooled single cylinder engine that has been sitting unused for quite a while.  It's cute for a leetle motor;  Nameplate says it's rated 4 HP at 2000 rpm, 5 hp @ 2400.

I'd like to find a manual for it and also filters (oil, fuel, etc) for it.  I'm going to use it to provide steady power for the homestead;  I'll be looking around for a 3 kw ST head and I'll find some serpentine pulleys for a belt drive setup like the one I'm planning for the Lister.  Has anyone any experience with these engines?

We might start a trend here. Last week I became the proud owner of an 8kw Kohler water cooled marine generator set with a 3cyl Yanmar Diesel running single phase 120/208 volts at 1800rpm. The boat it came off got an upgraded version with more kw. The owner wanted $100.00 for it. I would have given him $500.00 for it! So for my hundred bucks I now have a perfectly good 8kw unit for my house. Ran it at 8kw load for 4 hours the other day. No smoke, doesn't appear to use any oil and the fuel consumption isn't to bad. Came with a stainless heat exchanger for salt water cooling and it and my Changfa 195 will be sharing a 30 gallon cooling system. This is a pre-chambered engine so veggie oil and/or waste motor oil is in it's future. I now have 5 generators but sadly I don't have a Lister yet, but there is one out there waiting for me.

if you are on the East Coast and run across another deal like that, I am DEFINITELY interested.

But back to our regularly scheduled program-  does anyone know about the ts-50C?

Wow, you got a great deal on that engine.  The Small Diesel Engine Service Manual, by Intertec shows a Yanmar TF50, which they say is 18.86 cu in.  Looks similar to your TS.  I have the 3rd edition, 1991.  Maybe a newer version would have your engine.

Keep checking eBay for 'yanmar manual'.
