There's always a catch !  I have 25 or so motorcycles , 20 of which need restoration. Lack of adequate work space has prevented me making real progress but I always said they WILL be done !  Well I realised the other day that I'd had some of these machines for over 15 years , so the big new garage I will be building over the next 3 months can't come soon enough. Even then I doubt they will all ever be restored so I guess I should dispose of some of them , but how do I make the choice ??!!

congrats on the new garage , I have the cnc shop shoe horned in a 2000 sq foot shop in my back yard  , the engine machine shop (actualy my buddies shop ) is in 15000 sq feet and feels much roomier .

I have toyed with the idea of building a new 3000sq foot metal building if I can get the county to rezone an additional lot as commercial. More building in my area is making it harder to get permitted as commercial in rural areas .

I know the mc bug although I am capped at 7 bikes currently , I am lusting after a new ducati

Mmmm , Ducati's !! This is my passion , well along with my Vincent Rapide.  I have a 1976 750 Sport , the round case bevel type , 1975 450 Scrambler , 1973 250 American market Diana which is basically a Euro market Mach 1 with high bars , 160 Monza Junior and a Swiss Army , Ducati engined Condor 350 , oh and a 1988 851 Corsa , the customer race version.  The Sport , Scrambler , 851 & Condor are runners , the Diana and Monza need full resto.
Ducati's are painfully expensive to restore due to parts prices. Beautiful machines though , made with a real passion. The bevel cam drive ones are my favourite , just so exotic !

panaceabeachbum,

I have a disassembled 6/1 (GM90) in Saginaw Michigan (Heated / Air conditioned storage) available for measuring.
(Not exactly close, 19 driving hrs from Lake City Florida)

The block is on a roller platform and easily accessible.  Crank is out. cam, lifters, FI pump still installed.

Some time in the next 4 months it will be relocated near Ann Arbor MI but will be in danger of being reassembled.

any reason you guys not going the Yanmar way. the latest TF series is reliable, heavy duty, economical and reasonably priced. it runs a little fast at 2200rpm but you can get a bigger unit and run it at 1500 rpm forever.

i have good experience with the old TS series and other than the noise, it is comparable to the CS in reliability but come in a small package. of all the single horizontal makes from japan, Yanmar is among the better one. for example, the radiator is condensing type so a small leak on the core has minimal coolant lost unlike the kubota design.

unless your EPA man stop this too!

Low Gear,

you are absolutely correct.

i guess i am into continuous duty workhorse unintentionally forgetting that many forum member intention is to restore old diesel into show piece.

having said, i find continuing the Dursley CS heritage is something we all have in common here.

hi Doug,

i am eyeing a low hour Yanmar NT110. this is a 11hp 1000rpm horizontal single that weigh as much as the cs. probably of 50s manufacturing date.

you can see this old NT series all over Indonesia primarily for driving pumps as the need for water for agriculture use override the need of electricity.

the original colour is ocean blue rather than the current Yanmar red.

Yanmar set up manufacturing facilities in Indonesia and Thailand. perhaps this explain their popularity over here.

I think it would be quite a neat project if some one came up with a blueprint to weld up a lister crankcase.  Then buy the rest as kit.   Are there any automotive engines that would make good modifiers to slow speed?   I would think you could get cams modified for a chevy 350 pretty easy, it would take one hell of a flywheel though.  anyone in Minnesota up to trying to make an efficient slow speed converted car engine?

beachbum, if you make the effort to fab a crank case, why not a single crank pin 90 degree v twin?  blink

Ok, Ok, OK!

Some Yanmars are not boing.  I appologize.  With the ignorant pictures always make communication easier.

The engine in my Yanmar tractor is boring even if it is 40 years old.
