PVC for cooling lines to exterior mounted radiator?

I just was looking at a picture of Shipchief's engine room and noted what I thought were some sections of PVC pipe to the radiator

I know CPVC can be used, but since there's no pressure, but could regular PVC be used?  (Rubber at the engine connect, of course.)
