Anything sounds better than the Communist Broadcasting Corp (CBC)

I went through the same thing, 6/1 or 12/2

I ended up with the 6/1 and I'm very happy with it, it powers my whole house, it is easy to start, and attracts the neighbours when I start her up.... no sweet Cheerleaders or anything kinky... but hope springs eternal :D

There is plenty of room for all of Gods creatures... right next to the mashed potatoes...

I tend to agree with everyone's opinion of the cbc but if stuck between that and some local radio stations here in the interiour (ever heard "I'm a truck" by red simpson every morning for 2 months straight?????) I can take it in small doses.

Hey the CBC is all I listen....

Radio 2 reduces my driving stress.

Radio 1 has some good programs like madly off in all directions for a good chuckle...

And its not canned music from Toronto.

Sorry for hyjacking the thread.

Based on cujet's feedback it sounds like there are some reliability issues with the 12/2.  Has any one else with a 12/2 had these experiences?

1992 Dodge W250  with Cummins 5.9, 1941 Wooden Tugboat with VT1710 V12 Cummins, 1965 Kaiser M35A2 with Hercules LDT4651D diesel, 1964 MF 35 with Perkins diesel.

Oh .... what about weight? I would own a 12/2 I suppose but the weight of it and the gen head doubles or close to it. It goes from heavy to real heavy. It may not be an issue with you but it is a concern of mine.

One thing to remember with the 10/2,  12/2 and 16/2 is that they all have 180 degree crankshafts, so they sound 'uneven' when running at the lower speeds,

I was looking forward to having a Lister that sounded like a Ducati or Guzzi but mine just doesn't! >:(
My 12/2 sounds as though it has a 360 degree crank, absolutely even firing intervals. Under load it reminds me of some old tug, or maybe an old Dennis double deck bus from my childhood. I don't want to think of the acceleration and deceleration (undergone by the crank) that must be taking place for this to happen.
Wonder if I could cut a hole in the side of the crankcase and mount one of the cylinders there....  ;D

Cheers,

Brian

I went with a 14/1 and slowed it down to 600 RPM. This provides exactly 1 ½ times the power of the 6/1 and ¾ the power of a 12/2 when they are operating at 650 RPM.

There is only one injection pump which lowers the loading pressures on the idling gear.

The extra heavy flywheels also help when the engine speed slows to this level and provides an acceptable level of stored kinetic energy to maximize engine life and smooth power output.

It is direct injected for improved fuel economy as well, some people like the indirect injected. I have both and they are both great, but the direct injected offers a slight improvement in fuel economy if you are running only diesel/home heating oil.

I like the single for the durability.

We had several 2 cylinder John Deeres and my favorite was a 60 with power steering(didn't like the one without)  to rake with.  On a warm summer afternoon after lunch it was extremely hard to keep the eyelids open when being lulled by that old girl.  On the other hand I couldn't stand to have it cranked up and be plowing.  Especially if it got tough she would bounce the front wheels off the ground and sound like an autoloading shotgun all day.  The international was the prefered tractor for the plowing chores.

I used to pull a large 5 bottom disk plow with my 60, set about 5 - 6 " deep and she would really have to work but could do it.  A neighbour challenged me saying that and brought his ford diesel over to "prove" his was better.  In the end he had to admit the 60 would out pull his ford.  She really went through the fuel though when working that hard.
