About 6 years ago I was doing a startup on a new generator at one of the local dot.com's and they had an entire battery bank and 30kw ups that was free for the taking. Only problem was I needed a 40' trailer to haul it away, and was living in an apartment. Needless to say I now own my own home with lots of room for things like that and of course no one is giving that sort of thing away anymore. Now more companies are putting these type things on eBay. Here in Seattle there is a company called Bidadoo Inc on ebay and even my company is selling things to them instead of throwing them in my favorite dumpster. Dumpster diving is not totally dead yet! At least that's what I tell myself. I still check them everyday for goodies. My wife told me today that I need to build the new generator building out of concrete instead of wood framed. Good thing I didn't buy all that wood yet. Looks like it's going to be a real nice building. She's a hell of a good wife. I think after 33 years now I'll just keep her.

i got an exide 15kwatt 3 phase pure sine wave ups with power conditioner cabinet
it weighs in a svelt 1000lbs or so
it has a front end voltage of 240vdc

i have no plans after seeing what happens to a bad battery mid string of a 240 buss or using it with batteries, might try an induction or st head rectified to feed it with though.

it must have been like a warhead going off in that room!

at 25 bucks i couldnt pass it up,
funny what follows you home

I've worked in this field now for 37 years and to be honest the only time I get nervous is when I walk into the battery bank rooms. I have seen the aftermath of a large glass cased battery explosion and I agree with you, it is horrendous! 4 large 12 volt 8d batteries on a 2000kw Cat is enough for me. I have 20 large 100 amp nicad batteries in my garage right now and have not decided if I'm going to use them or not. They are safer than the lead calcium cells but the amperage is still up there in the nuclear zone.
