You must be up in the hills....

Its going down to -23 tonight and thats plenty cold enough.
I remember Timmins Ontario and the winters there -40, but it didn't bother me.

Yup, Kimberley is a ski resort, we want the snow, but not the cold.  I lived in Dawson Creek for 7 years, saw -54 F once, up on the plateau out Cutbank way.

Yeah, that`s what we tend to believe but maybe not.  Remember,  Murphy was an optomist.

Andrew,

Have you decided what RPM you will be running your 10/1?

Yes Derek Timmins has some plus points going for it if you like the out doors and winter activity.
The snow there is what struck me the most, good fine flakes and the dry cold made great trails.
The lakes were full of fish and the bush full of game.

But I was there in the early 1990's and the ecconomy was bad. Now things are better...
Given the choice of Winter in Toronto or Timmins its hands down for Timmins. Clean, dry winters and you don't even notice the cold after a while...

WOW! There are a lot of Canucks here..

I had my "Welcome back to Nova Scotia" power outages last week.  I had two in one day totaling 4.5 hrs.  This nudged my Chanfa powered generator over 500 hrs. Except for the first ten hrs, this has all been on BioDiesel.

I'm almost ready to drill the GIB key from my 20/2.  I had some problems with my desktop mill due to the move.  The Y axis driver shorted out.

Anyway, congrats on getting your system powered up.

Andrew,

Have you decided what RPM you will be running your 10/1?

I will run it at the rated speed.  I want to be able to run the whole house and have some to spare, I don't want to live in the dark once again.

cheers

Andrew

I have my components; a 10/1 and 7.5KW Powersolutions with an 11" pulley so it will be running just like yours. Still crated.  Lately was thinking about 850-900rpm using a 9.5"(approx) pulley would be better. I thought it would increase reliability and reduce noise but loosing a kilowatt or a bit more in output is a tough choice.

Sometimes wonder how it would do at 650rpm but there is a relationship between mass, rpm and flywheel diameter that may limit how slow you can run it effectively. I wish I knew how to figure out mathematically.

Might just buy an additional pulley to have the option and save fuel when using it for smaller loads.

Thanks.

With these machines in a backup or rarely used mode I don't think 650 or 1000 rpm makes much difference

either speed will see me dead I am sure before it needs to be replaced
