List of all standard info
« on: January 15, 2006, 12:07:25 AM »
Hi Everyone,
Someone a while back suggested making drawings of the gaskets. I have started to do so and have intake, exhaust and water flange gasket drawings. I will continue to collect them as I take a part off. I'd post it here, but I'm to dumb to figure how to paste it in.

Next is the belt and thermostat
ST gen belt    USA NAPA #250060935    93.5"
             Canadian  NAPA #060935          All Chev 4.3 L,  Ford 90 - 96,  Chrysler Pacifica '02

thermostat
       USA NAPA #THM253  190     Dimensions:1.805" Flange Diameter
Canadian  NAPA #33429     195    Dimension   1.72 "   GM '86 to '02

If you are one of the poor deprived souls who has no machine shop, unlike me ;D Here is a way to install a thermostat without machining. Yup.
You will have to make a gasket for the flange out of .25 gasket material. Make it to the outer dimension of the thermostat rim. Its thickness is .230" Use this gasket to center the thermostat in the head and use a Dremel, air or electric die grinder, to remove a bit of casting on the hole edge so the sensor end of the thermostat clears the block. Slap the flange on and bolt it down. Oh, yeah, drill a 1/16 hole in the thermostat plate close to the edge of the opening part, but not in it. This will let the air thru. If you don't want to, loosen the bolts after you fill it with water, wait til all the air comes out and re-tighten.

Gerry,
I sure didn't find a 0.25" thick gasket on my Lister. I used silicone coated (George B's trick- works nicely) generic pressed paper gasket material from NAPA.  A place for standards is a great idea.  Include 1 1/4" Taco cast iron circ pump flange as a mate for the breather.  Grainger 4RC79.

Use as taco flange with the mounting holes opened up a bit.  The standard taco 1 1/4" gasket is very thick and allows a thermostat to ride between the head and flange.  There is enough space around the gasket that there is no need to drill a hole and I think you avoid the problem of an inrush of cold water becasue there is a bit of flow around the thermostat.  Worked very well for me.

Bruce,
You are right, my zero is missing. The gasket is 25 thousands thick, the thermostat flange is twenty three thousands thick.

Ashwamegh 25/2 uses a different center main bearing than other twins we have worked with.
The bearing shell measures 2.125 ID. 2.625 OD, 2.875 Long. No flanges, just simple shells with lock pin hole in bottom shell, and two oil supply holes, plus oil grooves inĀ  top shell.
The main bearing bushes on the ends are 2.125", connecting rods are larger; 2.25.
Ashwamegh 25/2 & ST12
Lister SR2 10Kw 'Long Edurance' genset on a 10 gallon sump/skid,
Onan 6.5NH in an old Jeager Compressor trailer and a few CCK's

is there room with the stock cam profile or your improved one to run more lift?
