Thermosiphon Radiators
« on: January 05, 2007, 04:57:33 AM »
Now I am trying to find a decent radiator for the 24/2 Lister. I want to go with a thermosiphon to avoid any parsitic loads on the ST head. Anybody have any suggestions?

Those old fashioned cast iron radiators from the old houses seem to be a great idea for this.  I just picked up a couple of nice ones recently for this purpose but have not installed one yet. An opportunity arose and I jumped.  Mine are really heavy, about 160 lbs each I`d guess.

I'm using a radiator from an old chevy car on my Changfa.  I'm sure an old cast iron radiator would be better, and the styling more in line with a listeroid, but those are hard to come by around here.  The car radiator was free (from a packrat friend), but I had to buy a fan to move the air through it.

I am running a small triple core copper and brass rad about 12X15 inches on my Chinese 175A in thermosiphon.  Two strong 6 inch computer type fans from an old Dec mainframe are powered from the genset output to move air through it.  Works well but I`m wasting electricity running fans and do not like the reliability hazzard.  It is for this reason I got the cast radiators.  One of those radiators will be overkill for the heat this engine makes.
