Which Listerdoid companies do reply to enquires?
« on: December 04, 2006, 12:26:27 AM »
I've sent an email or two to several Listeroid companies via their respective website enquiry pages.
So far only one has replied.  My questions were simple, some basic engine details, price list and hopefully a shipping cost estimate to my nearest sea port.

Drum roll please to the sole respondent:
 - Mr. Atul Patel from www.poweranand.com (he even included pictures).

Is it typical for them not to reply?
How have you all managed to purchase engines from them?

Thanks.

If you wrote Toyoto some gum popper would load you down with propaganda in hopes when you went to a dealership you'd be informed enough to know 'about' what you wanted.    ;)

Most of these engine dealers have a few of these and one of that and a leftover half crate of something else. and then there are parts that when combined will be something else.....but they don't have a gumpopper stuffing envelopes.

What are you looking for?  If it's a stack of information, you're probably on your own.  Do searches, and read the volumes of personal experiences of others here and elsewhere and then figure out what you're going to DO and what you need to do it with and ask for it.  There might be one on this side of the pond there might not.

Powereanand replied to my email in less than 24 hours, with a standard reply, quote in Excel, and pictures.

The other 2 (can't remember, one was JKson I think) took a bit longer but did reply.

I think the key is not to overwhelm them with questions with your first email - keep it short initially, then follow up with more technical questions if required.

Also, use the query from on their website, everyone prefers this, as it is in their standard format.

At this point you need to ask not who answere's what questions or who builds the best engine.

What you want to know is who will build and engine to your specifications
Do you know what you want?

Once you do ask for that.
The you need to know everything you can possibly find out about the engines that builder makes and what isues those engines had in the past

At the point you ready to buy said engine built to your specifications you need to ask if they have corrected problems with these engines that your research has lead you to believe they may have and.

Then you have to ask yourself if your sure they can build it and get it right.....

But if you checkup transport cost be aware the local cost in your port are also high.

Hmm, my basic engine questions shouldn't be too hard to answer.  Only asked if they had 6/1 and 12/2 if their website wasn't forth coming on both types (not all had 12/2).  Next question was how much for the engine and an estimate on shipping if possible from their location to my nearest / biggest sea port (encase nearest wasn't listed).

Mr Atul price included engine & shipping, but I've got a gut feeling that this is a general worldwide price, so should I become more serious, I'd be asking for a more accurate price.

Doug: Do you know what you want?
Want a good quality and durable engine from a reliable company.
Other than that, my specialist knowledge is rather lacking.  Know from exposure with an original Lister that these slow speed Listers are very reliable, unlike, your Joe average screaming generator from the hardware store.
From reading more in this site, I've learnt that one can make requests as to certain features i.e. TRBs vs flat bearings, etc.  This kind of information wasn't forth coming on any Lister clone seller website.  I've still to read up regarding pro's and con's etc.

Hmm, haven't asked LOVSON and JKson, will try them.  (I've got both RocketBoy's Lister clone video's on my computer and love having them play in the background drowning out office chit chat & keyboard noise  ;D )

Thanks.

Also ask for a spare part pricelist. and order spare parts there is space in the box so the transport cost are the same. asking later for a gasket , valve or bearing you will pay a $150+ only for transport for a $25,- part and the combination is good for asking a better price.

And before ordering surf to this forum to findout all the nice details for installation.

At this stage in the game if a good running long lasting engine is what you want I think I would be looking long and hard at the Arrow K series engine if this can be converted back to diesel.

Damb the extra cost if an Arrow is put together right for a few dollars more money well spent.

My 8/1 just got delivered today, and I have just finished uncrating it, although it is still on the palette. It is a Powerline from Anand:

http://www.poweranand.com/diesel_engine.htm

although I purchased from the UK importer, www.stationaryengineparts.com. The deal is that Anand replied to my initial email, but asked me to purchase via SEP, which I was happy to do initially as they supply a warranty, and claim their engines are made to a higher spec. when shipped to SEP.

First impressions are good - paint quality good, not sprayed/brushed all over vital moving parts, well packed, with clingfilm in all the right places, and extra packing on all the vulnerable parts, and yes, it's true, the packing crate is made out of some sort of concrete made to look like wood...

Rotated engine by hand, makes all the right clicking sounds, flywheels ring true. As a bonus, I seem to have got the 1000rpm rated flywheels.

Copper washers in all the right places, no swarf in the fuel tank, no badges screwed onto fuel tank using self-tappers.

Plastic blanking plugs in all the apertures, split pins fitted correctly.

Further inspection to follow, together with stripdown.

Poweranand "Powerline" quotes approximately $900 for 2006 delivery to US Seaports. 2007 increases are beginning at 7% across the board. This does not include the myriad other import and customs costs once it lands in the USA plus any overland shipment costs required here.
