GOOD NEWS!! My gen head is ready for pickup
« on: November 29, 2006, 06:55:20 PM »
It is generating, its starting, and i pick it up tomorow.  Will have to build control panell for it, unless I find one on Ebay.

Its cost me $200 CAN to get it cleaned, upgraded, and tested... worth it i think.

now to get it mounted and try starting the motor... fuel tanks are in the mail too

Just have to get the wife and kids to leave me alone for a few days :)

Got to paint it....  Got install it..... got to adjust the two new belts for it.... then I have to build the control box, which he was supposed to do, but did not get around to it.

Hopefully the fuel tanks arrive in the next day or so.

He said he got it spun up to speed using another motor, and was able to test the starting circuit.

ANyone have some suggestions for a control panel???

Contact the prop department at Universal Studios and see if you can score one of the computer control consoles from Quinn Martin`s Time Tunnel TV show.  They looked pretty impressive and all those incandesent lights will double as a great dummy test load.  ;D

Actualy we just toss out a glass booth and control console withg a larger arm chair where I work. Complete with a small Ac usnit and lots of dials levers and flashing buttons. Quite possibly the coolest looking thing you could ask for to run a generator head. Lets see If I can find a photo of the old skip hoistman's booth lol.

failing all of that,,

go rent some of the original star trek shows, they are on dvd now

pause on scotty's engine room contol panel,,, too cool

and don't forget to hang the dilithium crystal over the lister!

or another alternative that would be more appropriate and cool as hell

go get 20 thousand leagues under the sea, and check out the subs controlls
now that would be awesome. there are some really cool old antique guages on ebay from time to time.

i can see a reostat control with a 6 foot art deco dial that takes both hands to move, with roman numerals or hey,,, egyptian hyroglyphics,, yaaaaa

we should have a design contest for a complete engine room , complete with controls :)

what the heck if you are going to build one, make it a center piece, a focal point,, then take a picture and make it into a poster

too cool

I supose I should ask whatexactly was done to the head and exactly what kind of upgrade ?

This is odd. $200 buys you a wash paint and a bake. Possibly some brushes, new wicks and packing if needed...

Pictures of T-19s proposed generator control both secretly being tested at an undisclosed location deep in norther Ontario. Sorry T-19 I know I was not to leak these spy photos but even when cleverly disguised as a hoist control the Lister green of the machinery on the test rig gives the truth away.....

Still used in parts of Spain believe it or not!

We have a decent collection of them, pictures of those and meters to go with them at:

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/Switchboard/Fuse1.htm

The first page is a selection of replacement china/porcelain fuse carriers that we had a mould made for so they could be cast in resin.
