50hz to 60 hz??
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:00:38 AM »
If I were able to get an original lister generator/SOM what would be required to get 60 hz from it versus the 50 hz it was designed for? Rewind the generator? I know running it at a faster speed would work but I dont want to run the lister beyond what it was designed for. Please keep in mind I am electrically challenged. Forgive me if the answer is simple.

either run it faster, or change out the driven pulley on the genhead

rewinding is not going to get you there

Thanks! I knew running it faster would work but had not considered going with the smaller pulley. Just for educational purposes, what is it in the constructtion of the generator that determines the Hz rating? I was thinking it was the number of windings and how they were moved through the magnetic field. Thanks for the simple answer though!

it is the combination of number of poles and rpm

2 poles at 3600rpm = 60 hz
2poles at 3000 rpm = 50 hz

4 poles at 1800 = 60 hz
4 poles at 1500 = 50 hz

etc etc
