For sale: Bamfords Z410 I've hoarded for about 15 years. Built the skid for it to run a welder which was a bad idea. I didn't understand how gearing a slow speed diesel up to a 3000 rpm welder armature would affect performance. On top of being under-powered for the job the gearing made throttle response too slow to keep my arc alive. Real reason I bought the engine was simply the love of craftsmanship and antique engineering. Just love the simplicity and sound of these old world engines. I've not found a good application for it for 15 years. Regrettably most of the things I can think of to do with it require an engine that has readily available spare parts, higher horsepower, or faster throttle response. It's been moved several times but always kept dry and under cover. Have not cranked it up since the failed welder project, and a lifestyle change has left me with less time and fewer application options than before. It's taking me years to admit that I'm not finding time to give it something to do. Registered for this forum simply because I started reading 38ac's posts and thought maybe someone here might appreciate it enough to give it another chance.
Price? Oh boy, how would I know? I'm not a collector; I just like antique machines and old world engineering. Tell me what it's worth to you. I know 38ac had some advice about pricing in another thread but not sure how to translate it to this machine and time. I'd be glad to trade for cash or maybe a Kubota or Lister diesel. The engine is located in South Carolina about 1 hour south of Columbia and 2 hours from Charleston.
I'm going to head out the shop and see if I can get some smoke and RPMs out of it. No sense in trying to sell something that won't run. When a buyer comes to pick it up we'll make sure it runs then too.
