Lister LV1 not running well.
« on: March 23, 2026, 12:31:52 PM »
Hi All,

Hoping for some advice. I have a Lister LV1 running a Commodore-Altrad mixer. The initial problem was high compression at startup. It was hard to push through the compression stroke after releasing decomp lever. I removed the fuel pump and injector and cleaned which seemed to solve the startup problem.

The issue I have now is the engine is running at high idle and not running smoothly with possible knock. I checked the governor linkage and that all seems ok.

I note the manual says to replace the shims under the fuel pump but I did not see any when I removed it. The engine was caked in oil and sludge at the time which I cleaned best I could before removing pump. There was a washer under the pump which I assume is the shim.

Anyhow I have adjusted the idle screw as far back as it will go and the engine speed has come down but it seems fast and to have a knock. I have played around with the settings on the engine control plate but doesnt seem to make much difference.

You can here the engine running here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ISjD7XLzeh0

Appreciate any thoughts on how to get the engine running better.

Thanks in advance.

PS: I'm not a mechanic but like to tinker.
