Wow, that is dear. I can't believe $500 to braze a single connection.  Is there not perhaps another shop where you could get a second quote, or alternatively, any engineering works should be able to do it?  Hell, if you were near me, I would offer to do it for free.

Trying to take more of a principles first approach to solving my 10/1 cooling problem.

Wondering, What would be the minimum radiator gallon capacity if one were not going to use either a fan or a pump? Just non-pressurized syphon.

In the same vein what would be the minimum coolant tank gallon capacity if one were not going to use a pump?

Thanks for the great advice.

@ Listerational
I can only speak of my experience with a 6/1.......the 10/1 using  double power output would probably require X 2 cooling capacity.

Using a cast iron rad with about 2 1/2 gallon capacity + an overflow tank with approx 1 qt of antifreeze in it would reach operating temp in about 3/4 hour and not overheat............OAT about 50*F

With a 30 gallon tank, same load, it never fully heated the tank after 3 or 4 hours operation with same operating conditions and OAT. Tank size approx 58" X 12"

Load in both cases about 2800W
Both set-ups used no pumps, no fan, only thermosiphon.
Both set-ups had tank/rad  bottom fitting above engine top fitting
Tank shape matters. Tall thin tank works much better than short squat tank.
I prefer the rad because of far less expense for anti-freeze.

Cooling capacity would also be greatly affected by load and run time.

Lister manual shows about 50 gallon tank for thermosiphon........probably  needed in desert conditions

Probably accurate cooling  requirements could be easily calculated by an engineer.....which I am not!

Cheers,
Hugh
