Hello Craig, and welcome to the forum.
PM me, I have a PDF manual for the Startomatic, and will be happy to send it along to you.
Cheers

Hi Craig,

That serial number would be the 1952-1982 format, which breaks down as Engine No. 927, 5/1 model, built in 1952.

Given you say it was commissioned in the 1960s, I wonder if there's a digit missing? e.g. 9275112 (which would make it a 1962 engine).

It's worth noting that the 5/1 and 6/1 engines are identical, just with a different RPM rating (600 for the former, 650 for the latter). The engine serial number plate should also specify the RPM (also the spec number).

Cheers!
Ade.

Hi
I've got a got a 9/1 Startomatic that I rebuilt from the crankshaft up a few years ago. then work, family etc intervened and it has just sat idle in the shed.
it runs well.and I'm hoping to put it to work again as backup battery charger on our off grid farm.
It's got the original water tank, fuel tank, cast iron muffler etc.
Our current generator is a 6 kVa Honda
It does the job but the big old Green Girl will be so much better.
Hugh, I read that you have a PDF Startomatic manual, could I please arrange to get a copy?
I hope it will be possible to set up a 2 wire autostart from the inverter charger which is the way the Honda works.
But failing that we can just crank it, I'm retired and around all the time.
Cheers
Jim
