Lister generator identification help please
(1/1)
simple_soul:
Hello everyone.
I have just begun to rent a house which contains a Lister generator which is used to provide power during blackouts. The current owner of the house doesn't seem to know anything about the generator.
I am fairly sure that it is a Lister diesel (because it says so on it), and I suspect it is single cylinder and air-cooled. The side with the identification plate on it is the side which is up against a wall, and there is a little corrosion on the plate. However using a mirror to read it, the following seems to be stamped on it: 1500rpm, 5hp, and a serial number which might be: 4279SR118.
I'm uploading some photos. I realize the photos are poor, but it is difficult to get the engine photographed from all angles, due to it being located in a corner and behind a fixed ladder.
If anyone would like to have a go at identifying it, that would be very kind of you. Best wishes to all, and thank-you in advance for any replies.

Hello and welcome,
That is an SR1 StartoMatic unit. Should be capable of around 3kw. There should be another tag on the generator head that will give you the details on that part of the unit.

Thank-you very much for your help @broncodriver99

Just to add one more tidbit - the "18" means this is a 1968 engine - and given it's general appearance, I'd say it's probably been in there since new!

Thank-you for this info @AdeV. This is a coastal location, and the window is permanently open, because the exhaust pipe goes out through it! Salt air does nothing for preservation. If I owned this house, I'd have the exit though the wall, and only open the window when it was running. By the way I shut off the mains electricity and fired it up, and it seems to be working fine, despite all the rust. Next step - make an attempt at changing the oil.
