TS3 without fuel lift pump.

Hello. I have a Lister Petter TS3 genset, engine no: 3300045TS3A08. Is it possible to upgrade it with a better fuel filter and mount a fuel lift pump instead of the blind cap where the fuel lift pump are supposed to be located?
It has an onboard small diesel tank with self pressure. I understand that I also need a fuel pump push rod 201-30550. Doesn´t it need some sort of socket or metal sleeve that the push rod goes in to?
I took some photos of the engine block to show what I mean.

There is no bush for the fuel lift pump push rod. It runs directly  in the crankcase.
