my friend had a manual for an imported kids size motor bike with a chainsaw size motor

it said bizarre things like

in case of dung hills in the carbureter

it seems the chinese need to have experienced foriegn engineers overseeing the factories for best results

if you type in

dursley

and go to the official town home page there is a page on listers

if you spend 1/2 an hr clicking around for additional pics you'll find one

a 2 cylinder 50s erathat is the front end with a drivers seat behind it
the motor and seat are the steering whee l and a small pallet truck follows behind

Global economics

its a two edge sword

1  increased trade links creates reasons not to go to war with your trading partners
2  lack of self sufficiecy leads to lack of self sufficiency

the people in charge of the companies are global people
they don't think of a country as a home team like we do

they are jus as happy collecting their money on any continent

all i can see is an uprising of collected individuals clanning together to create self sufficient economies
either that or we will become human termites servicing the queen bee classes

personally i prefer my mamilian heretige

Generators / springs for brush gear
« on: August 12, 2007, 04:24:44 AM »
we'e decided to replace the springs on the AC brush gear

local garage still stocks springs even in this day and age - so we'll try them first

Got a coupla other places lined up in the big smoke, should they not meet requirements...

Any one got any rule of thumb hints on tesion?

we still have the two "original" [read "previous"] springs for comparison

the DC ones are smaller and seem to have aged gracefully

kitchen table almost cleared for the job....

Lister Based Generators / Pros and Cons of the Lister start o matic
« on: July 10, 2007, 01:13:29 AM »
let me be up front

the reason I ask is because - i now find our som has been butchered [for good or bad]

and wish to work out the wisdom in taking it back to original - or keeping as is - or any other sensible mods

at some stage the wallmount box and the dogbox on the genset have been removed and all the start
up gear - solenoid etc and extension rods for decomp etc

I'm of the observation that the perfect use of the SOM was an outlying farm that suffered power cuts semi regularly and - the som was the perfect tool for keeping your freezer working and any other necessary routine power needs

our unit was either rescued and fixed or re wired for more "transportable" use - away from the grid ie on a barge or building jobs off the beaten track

my only concern is with the dogbox on the genhead removed their is no rectifyer/smoother

yet I know it was used as-is to build a house - but modern uses might be a little fussier

any thoughts?

i know bottom line will be the intended use - our initial thoughts were portability - but as an in line back up it still has merit...

cheers advice noted

we're in search of "spiral" wire insulating covering for the bare wires to the brushes

just saw the local auto elec - called it spira wire or something [had checked the local elec suppliers who hire human robots with no real love for their inventory]

he uses some modern tubular weave "fibre"? glass type stuff - like non shrinking heat shrink - only shiny and with fibres - heat shielding and insulating - used in oven wiring - and available from - u guessed it - the place where we were 10 mins earlier

but the cool thing with the old insulater "spiral" wire covers that are still there - is there would be no need to unsolder anything to put them on

they wrap around the wire like a telephone handset lead wraps round your finger - nifty I thought

so we open up the gen head

usual cobwebs and carbon

took out the four bolts holding the X shapeped brush mount  structure - got the puller on to it

2 sets of 2 brushes L and R at the top

the two more levels
each with 4 sets of brushes

takin it slow - debating how many wires to remove and label

Generators / Cleaning
« on: June 29, 2007, 04:18:23 AM »
Sorry if this has been mentioned before

So

my lister Gen head is 50 yrs old
it has been sitting for at least 10yrs

we've taken an end off to reveal the brushes - still in good nick

all manner of cobwebs etc - we'll get the air line on to that

but there seems to be a carbon residue all thru it

can I sleuce it in meths safely ?

any other non "shorting" cleaning fluid recomended

yes -we are lazily trying to avoid a major overhaul

or apply the leave well alone principle

other than the insect dross - we know the last coupla owners

is carbon residue that common or that big a deal ?

some dreamer pushes a crap product putting lives on the line  - but it slips thru

and then decent folk gotta get tied up in beuracratic tape cos someone abuses the previous system

and the cause - ie people havin a crap agenda to push crap product - remains untouched

hopefully this trend will run its course and the scales will tip back the other way for a while

its seems to me that education is the key - but there's so much to learn these days that "basics" seem to get overlooked

what was the rolls royce one

quality lasts long after the price is forgoten

or my mates dad's one

some one played a mean trick on you and told you, you were clever

where i live houses with eaves are king - its a magically simple design that been workin in harmony with the local weather for centuries

but some body starts readin woman's mags and dreamin of spanish style houses - some fool starts "supplying" the "demand" either out of stupidity or greed - houses designed to look good [aww how sweet]  start to leak - and the whole industry gets regulated, just cos it was fashionable to pander to a dum idea

if you wanna live in a spanish house move to spain

why people wanna fight nature instead of work in harmony with it - i dunno

still nothin bad lasts for ever
