Original Lister Cs Engines / Found an Anchor
« on: April 27, 2008, 03:50:53 PM »
On my way home from work day before yesterday saw this old lister by the side of the road.  On checking on it I found that it had been partially submerged in salt water during one of the hurricanes ca 2000-2001, and just left and is now on its way to the dump.  If I wanted it take it.  But looking in such bad condition I passed on it.  But by the next day, not being able to sleep that night thinking about i I drug it home.  On opening the sump cover I found that it had not gotten any water on the interior and looked in good shape inside.  I also pulled the head and found that the cylinder is also in great shape.  All external components terrible.
The Injector had been removed but the hole wadded up with paper.  I was wondering if anyone knew if a clone injector from an 81 would be the same to fit this?  The model # 560VA13, 7.5 HP,
850 rpm.  I will have to get all external components, fuel pump, governor linkage.  Which should be the  same as a normal 81, as I think everything remained the same on this except from the cylinder up.
Thanks for any ideas.  Here's the link for photos

Engines / Lister BS649
« on: March 24, 2007, 09:28:23 PM »
Hi guys, could sure use some help!  I think I have tennis elbow from cranking ;D
About a week ago, while at the dump I spotted this Lister Model B.S. 649  #00286 LT127-02
It looked to be all there minus the crank, so home with me it went.  On first examination I found that it would not turn past T.D.C.   Feeling disappointed fearing that something had come loose and fallen into the cylinder, I proceeded to pull the head off and found everything looked in pristine condition except for a huge build up of carbon.  Large chunks of this had become dislodged (probably from being thrown off at the dump), and were sitting on top of the exhaust valve causing the problem.  After cleaning this off and reassembling, and faricating a crank, I fell into the most arm wrenching episode of my life.  I get gobs of either black smoke out of the intake or white smoke out of the exhaust, but have yet to get it past to revolution after dropping the valve lifter.  I have tried bleeding all lines (can hear injector popping off), have drained old fuel and put in new and bled lines but all this thing wants to do is kick-back.
Thanks for any suggestion.
Chris
PS. Any ideas on RPM or Horse Power would be greatly appreciated as these were worn off of the   I D plate.  Thanks again.
