Generator output what changed???

Hi all could sure use some help, I have been using a lister sr1 with a Brush gen head as a construction gen set.
It has run all the tools fine for about three weeks until a few days ago the air compressor at times would load up and not start, this
got progressively worse until it now will not start at all.
It will no longer run the table saw which it ran fine until this happened with the air compressor. All the other tools run fine including a second air compressor that is also capacitor start.
I have put my Kill a watt on it and the output is the same as before this happened 124 volts at 62.5 hz no load.
Could sure use any tips on what I could check, everything else it seems to run just fine with no loss of power.

Lister Based Generators / low leg question
« on: April 30, 2014, 04:15:28 PM »
Hi just found a lister petter dws4a with a marathon gen head at the dump. After getting it home it did not take long to get it up and running but no output from the head.
I found that one of the field windings was burnt so pulled only the one winding out and had to rewind with only 4 in hand 1 size wire up salvaged wire. Now my question ;D
it seems to now put out ok except 1 leg is at 119 v and the second at 120 v will this be a problem for extended runs or load?
thanks for any thoughts.

chris

PS this is at no load

Original Lister Cs Engines / injector help
« on: September 03, 2011, 06:12:47 PM »
Hi I have been running my original 8/1 S.O.M on used veggi oil . It has run fine for the past 2,500 hrs until 2 days ago when I forgot to switch over to the wvo on start up,my diesel start up shut down tank is only 1 gallon so in about 2 hrs it ran out of fuel.
The next day I tried bleeding the air out which I have never had a problem with before but with no success.
The pump and injector are not original but mico bosch when I rebuilt the engine the originals where to far gone to save, I have since acquired another 8/1 S.O.M as well as a VA.Thinking it was the pump I first changed this with no success then tried the injector from the 8/1 but found that it only pumped the fuel out of the fuel return and would not pop off.I then used the ingector from the VA ran first compression stroke.  ;D
Now to get to what I want to ask the mico bosh pump does not spray a mist but more of a stream and if in the engine and try to crank under compression the pressure looks as if it tries to back into the pump ??? could this be and if so can I repair it. And also is there any hope for the original injector that will not spray but only bypasses the fuel.

Thanks for any help

Generators / Lister VA gen head
« on: May 30, 2010, 09:14:52 PM »
I am in the process of rebuilding a Lister VA, I am having to replace all of the wires in the gen head but i am having a problem in figuring out what the small wire wound variable resistor is for or how it should be wired . The large one I think is the shunt field regulator but I cannot see in any of the diagrams that I can find what the small one is any one familiar with one of these.

Original Lister Cs Engines / 8/1 shake
« on: June 05, 2009, 12:11:31 PM »
Hi guys could sure use some pointers Ā ???. I haue an original 8/1 driving a st 5 head this has run without a flaw for the last 150hrs. About a week ago on going to shut down it was vibrating like crasey,I shut it down and my first idea was to check gib keys to see if they may have worked loose but both were tight. I next restarted to check R.P.M. thinking somthing on the gov had come loose but this was right on. I haue put about 20 hrs on it like this it has not gotten any worse but will soon shake itself to bits, any ideas.

Generators / start-o-matic gen head question
« on: August 17, 2008, 12:08:53 AM »
hi guys trying to rebuild my gen head and have a problem. All wiring was cut off short or missing,I have replaced as best I can guess at.When conected to battery it moters fine,it will also light a 100w light bulb while running down so i think most is in order. My concern is when i connect the shunt field regulator which seems to stay in circuit at all times it seems to load up when trying to use as starter anyone know if this is normal or i have a wiring problem. thanks for any ideas  Christopher

Hi Guys!
Trying to rebuild my Lister 4.5 KW GenHead (real bad shape) and I am needing to replace the bridge rectifier, it is completely rusted away.
I was hoping somebody could give me an idea of what voltage and amparage bridge I would need as replacement.
Thanks for any help

Original Lister Cs Engines / Another Anchor found today
« on: May 18, 2008, 01:10:34 AM »
Found this 8/1 water cooled today, the owner said I could have it if I could move it.  It had been sitting out in the weather for the past 20 years without the head on.  So, I had little hope of freeing it up.  By the time I hauled it home I noticed that the cylinder had popped loose and all was free.  All I have to try to free up is the piston in the cylinder.  Here's a few pics:
