Thanks guys finally got a chance to check the gen, It was the bridge rectifier all is running well again.

Thanks Thob yes the RPM does drop and no it does not have a AVR it only has an aux field winding and a bridge rectifier I am now thinking the aux field winding must be shorting .I have cleaned the slip rings and not much more to blame

sorry the voltage drops down to 97 volts when trying to start them the table saw blade oscillates back and forth the air compressor is only a small portable the other one that it runs fine is twice the size and rated wattage.

It has run all the tools fine for about three weeks until a few days ago the air compressor at times would load up and not start, this
got progressively worse until it now will not start at all.
It will no longer run the table saw which it ran fine until this happened with the air compressor. All the other tools run fine including a second air compressor that is also capacitor start.
I have put my Kill a watt on it and the output is the same as before this happened 124 volts at 62.5 hz no load.
Could sure use any tips on what I could check, everything else it seems to run just fine with no loss of power.

Yes I have seen so many of these just go to waste over the years thinking it was such a daunting task to rewind.
With the good results from this first try I think I will not let so many go to waste

Weill I put about 4000 watt load on it the max I could come up with steady and it went rock stedy at 120.4 per leg so I hoping all is good after about 2 hours run the back end of the gen is cold the fan end is only slightly warm.

thanks dieselgman I don't have the head # in front of me its only one of the cheap 4 wire 30kva heads put together by pivot power.
Its overkill for my needs so will not be overloaded, will only use it for the convince of the auto start and running the few 240v tools in my shop.
the 4.5 kva 8/1 meets all my normal needs
finding this kind of thing at the dump is one of the joys of living on a small island in the Bahamas no repair shops, its quite common to find them

Lister Based Generators / low leg question

Hi just found a lister petter dws4a with a marathon gen head at the dump. After getting it home it did not take long to get it up and running but no output from the head.
I found that one of the field windings was burnt so pulled only the one winding out and had to rewind with only 4 in hand 1 size wire up salvaged wire. Now my question
it seems to now put out ok except 1 leg is at 119 v and the second at 120 v will this be a problem for extended runs or load?

If my well was close I would incoperate a pan under the engine to catch any leaks . Also under the fuel tank with a drain to a large enough holding tank to hold the contents of the tank.

I put a SOM flywheel pulley on my st its run for the past three years no problem yet.
