Everything else / Soldering a fuel tank
« on: March 07, 2007, 04:37:40 AM »
After much searching ( about 15 minuts worth in the bone yard ) I've decided I should make a fuel tank for Gus.

Then I read a post on SmokeStak about a fellow that made a reproduction Steel tank and soldered it.

I assume he used a much higher tin alloy than I'm used to using. The Silver is no good ( at least the stuff I used in the motor shop too much heat needed ) so what kind of solder is right for joining a steel tank, and what kinf of acid flux is best. How big of an Iron do I need and or should I try electric or copper heated by torch ect...

Way out there with this post I know, I'm on a "If I can't make it Gus don't need it kick"....

Educate me fellow motor heads!!!

Here is a link to the fellow that made his

My queen is a lot like that too?

I like raise my voice, she shouts me down and reminds me I'm not always right
I worry a lot about stuff and she tells me to relax.
I feel guilty spending money on things like Gus, she reminds me money is only good if you spend it and we have a little extra.
I deny her and my son nothing, I'm not rich but we get by.....

She cooks, cleans, drives a school bus, and takes care of me.
She's little heavier than she used to be, but thats ok I'm balding.
She can be abrasive and holds a grudge ( that means she's a wife )
She trusts me ( I'm married and dead from the neck down, realy I don't notice you ladies anymore ).

Old Russian proverb:
The man is the head of the family, but the woman is the neck.
The neck turns the head.....

Can't amagin life without my wife and my son ( mini me ). I'd probably work all kinds of overtime drink too much and die from eating too much fat....

Living in a shipping container isn't such a bad idea at all Jack, Your friend is probaly a little ahead of his time since I hear that some modular homes are being built around the world using old shipping containers. Makes sence they can be stacked, very well built and strong and all steel is fire proof as well as weldable for modifcations to the living space.

Ditto on the high presure water hose....

The machanics I work with have sued the same stuff for heaters and auto aplications. Its not ment for high temperatures but seems to work. This is whats in store for Gus 1 inch 250 PSI air/water line.

Good luck...

Settled on an engine vender yet?

I hate to sound negative but there is some real crap floating around out there and even with constant love and attention some of these are still aren't clocking a lot of reliable hours.

Pictures please!

What did you do, Gus has an oil line to the rocker shaft already. This is already a stock item if you ask for it.

So is a by pass filter ( Gus also has but I don't like and there is an Indian varrient with a spin on ).

All things equal I might buy the 2 pole over the 4 in a brushless unit. Higher brush wear in a 2 pole becuase of the extra speed would be my only concern.

From a design POV a 2 pole head will be a little more efficient and smaller.

A lot depends on how well the machine is designed and built.
