Worked on some neat stuff, Waukesha, Lister, Nordberg .... then the usual Detroit, Cat, Cummins, Perkins..

Would love to find a 12hp Nordberg Powercheif..

You will have to find a way to have each Alt independent as you synch them together, once they are in synch and loaded they will remain so. If one belt (or whatever) breaks, the slower Alt will become motorized with less than optimal results.....

Ronmar, what LORSTA were you at? I spent a year in Okinawa, and a bit of time in Yokota, just missed getting a billet on Iwo but ended up working on Lighthouses in Northern Me.

Xfmr oil probably ok as fuel, but it has no lubricant properties. Id be concerned about injector wear over time.

Another pilot here, soloed 1983 when I was 17.... seems like such a short time ago!
 As far as lifting your motor, I put a lifting strap over each end of crankshaft, then choke it with a ratchet strap around the head. Keeps things from getting "entertaining"

Try surplus city, all kinds of ac and dc fans. I use 225 cfm ac fan with a medium size radiator, 3500 watts normal load, 190f temp sender to relay which picks up fan. 2nd sender 210f to 2nd relay picks up taco circ pump.

I wonder if anyone has tried to convert a Listeroid to hot bulb ignition? Replace the changeover plug to a hot bulb. Maybe advancing the injection timing long before tdc, the hot bulb being large enough to reduce compression to avoid preignition.....

Just a thought, maybe fun to try one day...

I agree, timing too far advanced for slower RPM, another thought: injector leak. That may have the effect of advancing timing even further. Just a guess.....

Given the choice, a solid bearing is always better, but with the lack of quality control that is reality with these engines rollers are not a bad compromise. Original CS engine were built as daily workhorses and the quality still shows. These copies are at best poor imitations, I hate to say it, better for tinkering than day to day hard usage.

When you look at other TRB applications, heavy truck axle bearings and the like, I can't believe that a Listeroid is going to be a harsher use. The impacts sustained by an over the road truck even withsuspension cushioning, are way beyond anything this engine can generate. These type bearings with care last hundreds of thousands of miles. I just don't see the issue. Keep the sand out of them and they'll be fine.

 I did find an 8 groove 12" cast iron pulley on a surplus website, weighs 70#, uses QD bushing, needed a pulley anyway...

Do you need AC at all? Motors etc?

If not, 20 6v batteries equal 120v +or-.

you can run incandescent lights and even some motors off of this....

Electrical Substations run off of 135V dc for control power and to operate Motorized Disconnects.

Maybe you can eliminate AC entirely...

Your right, just an interesting exercise for my calculator. Only of value in establishing ballpark figures... As far as grenades go, anything can go wrong at any time for any number of reasons, the best anyone can do is mitigate the danger and protect from the potential consequences...

It's been a while since I read completely through it but one thing I do remember was that max rim speed was in the neighborhood of 60 miles per hour for a cast iron flywheel, good rule of thumb....
