When building our house, the plug for the home entertainment system was put on a wall switch. One switch and the whole system shuts down and no worries about the smart TV listening to either.  :o

Why not power the fuel solenoid from the starter crank circuit while cranking? No diodeds needed if there are 2 small terminals on the starter solenoid.

There were carbon deposits on my injector, similar to what you describe, when running alternative fuels. I never did resolve the issue and gave up. Diesel prices got cheaper too.

My goal for 2018 is to accomplish something that should have been done in 1848 but was "put off off for later" and that is to split California into multiple states. http://newcaliforniastate.com If that doesn't keep me busy enough I'll be keeping the Ashwamegah thumping charging batteries and hopefully adding an air compressor to it.

Those Bamford engineers were masters of simplicity. Looking at the wheel in question it looks like it may be used for priming. Can the collar on the exposed end of camshaft be rotated to change timing?

A 40 gal electric is a good place to dump a lot of extra power when the batteries are full. We use one to preheat the water before it goes into the gas heater.

Youch Mike! I hope you get through the recovery process quickly and completely. We missed you at last months meeting.

My FLA bats, now 10 years old, regularly use 5-6 gal per month. This is a 48v 1055 ah bank of 4 Hawker PV1 batteries. So Mikes water usage is not to far out of line. I made a setup with a 5 gal cooler bottle and 5/16 vinyl hose to water the batts that works very well.

The easiest way to clean them might be to take them to a local engine rebuilder and have them hot tanked. Nice find.

Stef, something tells me there is a story behind that sound advice.

Listeroid Engines / Re: installing 20/2 listeroid generator in shed
« on: October 02, 2017, 05:48:20 PM »
Just cut a hole of the desired size in the floor, form it in and pour a concrete block to mount the generator on. It's really not that big a deal to hand mix a yard or so of concrete by hand. The block preferably should not touch the floor of the shed.

When running the hydronic loop, the 35 gal tank barely gets warm and no water needs to be added for the season. The system is running straight water because it doesn't get cold enough in the generator shed to freeze and our spring is fairly non-corrosive.
