Google says area code is Texas

So true.
Any day of the week one can browse Craigslist and see the ridiculous over priced ads for tools, equipment., etc that have literally been on there for YEARS. Just what goes thru the sellers mind.........besides a cross wind??
 :)

That's just too funny.
Even if it was bought new by John Wayne, sold to Elvis, then gifted to Michael Jackson, it ain't worth
it. It's a mystery what makes folks think their iron is worth it's weight in silver.

Listeroid Engines / Re: chp video

My gosh that video's impressive even at low quality.
Those dudes must be data collecting hyper-geeks.
Looks like a lot of fun, but hope they didn't pay full price for some of those goodies.
I've been watching the development of the Banks Data Monster, zero affiliation.
It's primarily a monitor and data logger, I don't think there's provision for shut down.
Interesting tho, and a lot of inputs plus recording capability for under $400 I believe.
Geared toward automotive, but also discrete sensor capable.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Lister load test

Not to hi-jack your thread but just for reference I asked for and received a price quote from
DES. An 8/1 'kit' as they call it, $2195 and $495 shipping to upstate NY. I'm sure one can
pay a lot more for an 8/1 CS.

That's a cool rig, where did you get it?

I have enough interest to say, please keep this discussion going.
Pricing info would be helpful if/when that's available.

What is the 'other' thread that spawned this one?

Well then, Preventative Maintenance is just that isn't it.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Theory/Principles?

Wow! Interesting.
Even more complicated than I thought!
So I guess the guy on the machine shop forum that says he's not changed the oil in his Powerstroke for 54,000 miles and it's "still going strong" is either pushing his luck, or getting ready for a big repair bill.

I think what I read was the super high (relative term) pressures were to atomize the liquid into smaller micro drops which helps it light off more evenly, thus giving better fuel economy and efficiency.
Never have yet seen one of the modern pumps, but they must be truly rugged units to withstand those operating conditions for 200-300,000 miles.
Luckily, no such nonsense on an old dirt simple Listeroid.

Interesting thread....
Not to nitpick, but just to clarify, Common Rail systems operate above 20,000 PSI, and some up to 35000 + PSI. Way above any old style mechanical system, and seems mind boggling that it can be so reliable.

More recently, you may have heard of "common rail" diesel engines - very popular in cars. These have a single pressurised fuel line going to all of the injectors; it's at a lower pressure than a mechanical injector pump will deliver, but still many hundreds of PSI.

Anyway, I hope the above helps. If anyone spots any errors or omissions, let me know and I'll fix 'em.

General Discussion / Re: New posts in an email notification?

Thanks I just saw this.
I guess the way to keep up is stop by and check unread posts as per glort.

General Discussion / New posts in an email notification?
« on: February 06, 2018, 03:38:01 AM »

I don't specifically see any option to set email notifications for new posts.
Is that a feature on this forum? If it is, where do I set that?

thanks

Interesting......and also depressing.
Maybe some day the EPA cops will take to raiding old engine shows and writing tickets on the spot.
 :police:
I sure hope I'm wrong!
 ::)

More questions if you will humor me.
So, if a guy (business) was to use the Listeroid platform as a basis for a CHP system that ran on Nat Gas,
that 'seems' doable and legal?
What if the engine is compression ignition and uses diesel to ignite the NG?
What if the engine is converted to spark ignition?

The fun thing about any forum is the ease with which one can ignore the silliness

There certainly is a varied range of personalities replying to this.
Even some with common sense and pertenant information!
(You people are whom I am seeking answers from, and thank you).

I would like to mention that no where in my first post do you find the word SELL.
Some of you smarter types picked up on that straight away.
Interesting that deselman has some sort of engineering drawings.

For the drama inducers, I'm not really considering letting these details of legality
dictate my choices for any hobby involvement, I really am interested in any word
of parts or engines being confiscated or held in customs (and stories thereof).
IE Has it happened? More than once?

Thank you!
