Nice job!  Is the exhaust inlet placement on the propane tank for cyclonic action? How is it cooled? Love the hitch mounted crane also.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Water Temperature Gauge's
« on: August 25, 2009, 12:19:35 PM »
I keep my (uncertified ;))IR gun next to my 6/1 and use it quite often, but I'd rather just look at a gauge that gives me a more accurate idea of what the internal cylinder head temp is, but thats just me.

The double flange kit is sold by some oid dealers and came standard on some engine brands.

I like the idea of drilling and tapping the head for the sender, it isn't the only one I've seen and I think I'm going to do it to mine as well. Hey Murph, how did you know that was a safe place to drill and how much clearance around the hole on the inside was there?

They're talking about cigarettes in the oid section so I guess it doesn't matter where you post. :-\

Bio-diesel Fuel / Re: Biodiesel Newbie
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:20:54 PM »
Thanks Veggie, washing a small amount of bio in a soda bottle made for some very thorough washing. This is kind of addictive, now I just need to step up to larger batches.

Bio-diesel Fuel / Biodiesel Newbie

I decided to try making biodiesel using the DrPepper method on both new and used oil. Both batches turned out good I guess. Should this stuff smell kind of like Dial soap or does that mean I need to wash it more?

Craig, when are you going to bring it home? Before or after you fix it?  :)

Better to deal with a crappy waveform than no waveform at all when that AVR goes to hell. Just tore my ST5 down and put back together, and I'm amazed how these things even work. Just a $10 bridge rectifier and cheap easy to change brushes. But I have to admit that there is a lot of things I haven't tried running with it yet.

Yup! Sure does look purty. Ooooh, a new Racor too! Lowspeed, I think your referring to the temp gauge.

P.S. Dittos on the offset idler.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Got my new engine!

billswan, yes my left side bearing is drilled in the top side.  I was gonna do some pictures but some people got weird about me wanting to post pictures of my teardown inspection ???  I have lots of pics I just decided not to post them.

"Some people" have to realize that first and foremost this forum is about Lister type engines and says so in the address bar. Don't let "them" spoil our(lister type owners) fun.

Matt, those are two great points I forgot to bring up to piper. Its hard to tell in my picture but I bent the ring feed tube so that it just clears the ring after making the same observation. They had it favoring the TRB which I think gets plenty of splash lube. I planned on doing some restricting also not knowing if it was still dribbling like you said.

As for oil, my sump is completely filled right up to the top of the dipper, so it can't run dry even if the pump fails.
