note: while the 1903 springfield may have been on the winning side of 2 world wars, this rifle was an unabashed copy of the 1898 mauser. Cant argue that the Lee Enfield is a great rifle, but just cant get used to the .303 cartridge. Think because it's rimmed. Just personal preference. I'd cheerfully use it if it was me or the polar bear. My '98 mauser was chambered for 30-06. Loved it in Alaska, but too much gun for Oklahoma. Hunted deer in Virginia in heavy cover with an M-1 carbine. 100% one shot kills. Another wonderful old rifle.
One of my long standing pet peeves is hunters who use .300 mags, or even larger for deer. What exactly are they trying to do to the poor deer, shooting it with an elephant gun(rifle).
