morning
as far as i know'anybody feel free to say different' you can not run two automotive alt's on the same battery bank as the regs fight.
same goes for charge control units with offgrid systems.

sounds abit like you have an AVA1 engine in your dumper, lots of dumpers from that time where fitted with a PH1 or PH2.
if you are to get any bits make sure they arent mistaken.
evil bay has spares for your engine keep your eyes open.

sorry mate 'dieselguy'
i have to stop you there, if i have it rite.
quote.
'This engine weighs under 300 lbs. plus the generator and I would bet anyone this little 1,124 cc engine can outlast any Lister type engine between rebuilds, three times over. Don't get me wrong, I love my big singles.'

'any lister type engine'
if you are includeing a dursley cs in that quote, than i am afriad you are talkin crap!
'three times over'
thats 3 times 80-100,000 hours
no 1000+rpm engine can do approx 300,000 hours with out several rebuilds!!!!

Quote
'Peter on Smokstak narrowed it down to an LD or SL.'

although some parts of the engine look a bit LD ish, i would say it's a SL.
ld's are low power out put 2-3hp ish, sl more like 5hp
if the cowling on the side is alloy then sl, all ld's i have seen are tin.

living off grid means a change to your life style in most areas, includeing the size of machines you can use.
unless you have deep pockets and dont mind de-cokes every 50-100 hours!
it boils down to the basic's diesels are heat engines and need full operateing temp's evan with rope heaters etc you cant beat a good work out, at the end of the day most are asking them to run on low grade fuel not dino as they were design for by and large.
buy a single or a twin run them at high or low rev's but if want them to last and run well you have to use them how they were designed to be!
if you are going to relay on this set up every day for your needs then its KISS all the way.
less you want to spend a slice of your day mending your genset off grid :-[
it's all well and good building bells and whistles on to a set central heating pumps in the cooling system etc.
but it will go wrong one day and cost you, go back to the start and see what lister did and dont stray too far.
KISS engineering
