I dont understand this reverse thermosiphoning. If the engine is lower than the tank then why would any heat flow back to the engine?

Well if your going to see him and put the engine on a pallet be polite and assume there has been a misunderstanding. The engine will probably have to stay on his property until picked up by the carrier so get it in a suitable place for pick up.Next week ill teach you how to suck eggs  :-*

What you do is open up a bank account and ask him to transfer a small amount of money to it to make sure everything works ok.That way you have the pleasure of robbing him if only for a small amount. And dont forget to send him a message that the police have been informed. ;D

Listeroid Engines / Re: Removing Valve Guides
« on: January 06, 2009, 12:00:49 AM »
I presume you want to remove them because they are worn out. If they are not to bad them leave them alone. The exhaust valve has around an inch of thread and if still tight after unscrewing will have to be pressed out.The bottom part of the exhaust guide is rather thin and can easily be broken if you are not careful. Some oids do not have the threaded part. You will have to find out from the maker.

You should be able to take the injector apart with out losing the pressure setting.Under the top cover there is a locknut and adjusting screw.Leave them alone and you can take everthing else apart for a clean without loosing the setting.
Getting some oil on top of the piston and on the valves should give some temporary compression for a start up.Some hot air down the air intake while turning it over will help as well. After you have had the pleasure of watching it run i should strip it down to find out what you have got.

Matt
How thick are your shims? If they are Indian shims then they could be way to thick.Shims can be made out of any old beer or coke can.
Take the shims out and torque up.If its tight then add one shim and try again.Keep adding shims evenly to both sides untill the rod moves without binding.

Well i would suggest that it is not fit for purpose and ask for a replacement bush crankshaft and bush bearings.I presume that you have got the TRB bearings in the housings correct ?.

Sort of defeats the point of it being called a cold start Lister :-\.Putting some heat down the intake does seem like the best way of starting these things especially after a restoration or rebuild.Recently i bid on a SOM head for the sole purpose of being able to start with the press of a button only to be out bid by Rab >:(.

I used a 4ft x 2f x2f block sunk into the ground by about a foot.It was lined with 2" polystyrene sheet before the pour and removed at ground level when set. This is to isolate the block from the floor.Lister Did give details of the block size required. You could not go far wrong by following their example. You also could experiment to your hearts content on top of the block and still have a sound foundation to go back to.
