BruceM,
I did the same thing as Mac Mcquaid with the upper coolant flange, the thermostat that worked for me was a Federated brand part #207-192.
   Hope this number helps!

Was the first 300 hours the break in time?  I am wondering why things were all choked up after 300 hours but not after the next 500.

Hotater,
Wow!  Who would have thought the oil would remain so cool, with it whipping up and around the cylinder.  Do you have a thermosat in your engine, if so do you know the approximate head temperature?

Hotater,
Do I understand correctly, your crankcase oil only reaches 100 degrees?  Is this the case even after running the engine for 3-4 hours?

Quinnf,
If I had known you a year ago, I could have saved myself a tear down to look at the rod bearing.  Funny how a loose flywheel sounds just like a bad bearing!

Hotater,
You stick around and watch that flywheel loose energy, I'm haulin' butt!

Merry Christmas Day!!!

A loose flywheel will also make a heck of a knock.  You might double check the gib keys and make sure they are tight.

Quinnf,
I have taken pictures of a gib key puller that I fabricated.  I tried unsuccesfully to post them using coppermine photo gallery.  If you are interested I am happy to send them to you by way of E-mail.

Dear Mark12,
The 20/1 is a Satyajeet brand that looks just like the 6/1 engines only larger.  The flywheels are about 30" in diameter and weight about 300 lbs. each.  I have only run the engine about 30 minutes, in front of my house on the driveway.  I then decided I needed a proper shed to install it in.  The shed is almost done, so I will be able to get the machine set up and running soon.  Yes, it is driving a 15KW generator and I did make some power with it during the test run, however I did not have a good setup and only had a small load on the generator so I really don't have a good feel for the setup or how the engine will perform.  It is rated for 20 HP @ 750 R.P.M.  Compared to my 6/1 Listeroid, 750 R.P.M. seemed kind of fast so I may put a smaller pulley on the generator and slow the R.P.M. down a bit - we will see.

Best regards,

Listeroid Engines / Re: COLD start---

Jack,
Do you find the need to use either on every start, or just when it is really cold?
You remimd me of a book I read (One Man's Wilderness) about Dick Proenneke who built a cabin using simple hand tools in the Twin Lakes region of Alaska.  He did it all by himself and without the aid of electricity.  Anyhow, you are all by yourself and isolated and in the cold which is what brought the book to mind.  Dick Proenneke recorded temperatures as low as -48 degrees.  He lived in his cabin for 35 years and now it is part of the National Park service.

Best regards,

Clifford Myers
