Lister Based Generators / Lister SR with Onan/Studebaker head.
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:35:06 PM »
I have a client looking for information regarding manuals or other documentation for a 1960's vintage Onan Studebaker Mod 4.0uf-3s/1e  Ser.1172527539  Volts 120/240 Amp 16.7,  PF 1, cy60, RPM 1800.

Has anyone dealt with or ever heard of an Onan/Studebaker joint product of this description?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Latest Project 8/1 SOM
« on: May 05, 2014, 12:40:28 AM »
Purchased this piece of British history last year... finally found a little time to play. I'm going to make a show piece out of this one.

First getting all the grime, rust, and old paint cleared away. Since this unit is already fully operational, and unmolested, we will just give it a thorough going over and keep it all original if possible. So far everything is perfect.

I will post further as this one progresses... fun to work with the original high-quality stuff when it is in good shape.  :)

Lister Based Generators / Stamford C20B
« on: April 12, 2014, 02:21:13 AM »
Does anyone here know where to find the manual/s for older Newage Stamford model C20B and/or C234B generator heads?

We recently brought in several retired from the Canadian Coast Guard. They seem in good condition but I have not been able to locate any good documentation for servicing and reconditioning them.

Original Lister Cs Engines / British Container Shipment
« on: March 31, 2014, 12:12:15 AM »
Finally nearing the end of a long saga... we just shipped out the first of the Dursley Listers from the ill-fated British import project started several years back. Brett S. has the honor of being the first owner to redeem his purchase from this batch of 16, now how about you other guys? Everything is in safe storage but it is costly to keep moving these machines around and I am tiring of stumbling over them in our shop buildings not to mention the large personal cash outlay it has taken to get them this far along. Eventually we will have no choice but to implement some sort of deadline for final resolution, or make some new storage arrangements. What do you think? I would sure like to see these all make it to their intended new homes pretty soon now.

Best Regards,

Listeroid Engines / DES 18/1 build
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:01:56 PM »
Here is a snapshot of the 18/1 that Bill W. is currently building. He has done a thorough blueprint on the internals and added a mini-turbocharger (with charging chamber), and external rotary oil pump among other mods. So far it all seems to be working as intended but no technical data available as of yet.

Bill is also building his own PMG generator heads to provide a load for his new baby... here is one prototype that is now operational:

and the back side showing bearing mount and rotor.

Pretty impressive fabrication work - especially when viewed up close! WOW!

I will try and keep you posted on progress with this project.

Listeroid Engines / anti-wear coatings
« on: March 24, 2014, 02:24:28 AM »
Here is an item I thought might be of interest to the members here... Calico (name brand) anti-wear coatings on CS 18/1 parts: A friend of mine is building up a DES 18/1 with turbocharger and other mods. He is sparing no expense to make everything bullet-proof.

These are CS pistons with CT2 Metallic Ceramic coating on the crowns and CT3 dry-film anti-scuff on the skirts.

Here is a CS connecting-rod bearing with applied CT1 dry-film anti-wear coating.

This stuff is typically specialized for use in the auto racing industry but it didn't cost too much - ($160 covered application costs for 2 pistons and 4 rod bearings), so I think it is within reason for most of us with the single cylinder engines. You just have to plan ahead and send out your parts to North Carolina for the treatment.

Everything else / Gelled lube oil ???
« on: January 10, 2014, 01:59:57 AM »
We just got in a Lister (natural gas fueled) oilfield engine. Everything looked pretty clean inside and out, except all of the lube oil is in a very thick and sticky glob that refuses to flow or move more than a slight wiggle. We had to remove it from the crankcase by the handful and had to pull a bit to get it out. Now it gets worse! This stuff will not burn, does not dissolve with sodium hydroxide, lacquer thinner, acetone, seems to thin slightly with gasoline but really does not want to dissolve. I have applied heat with no change. I have not seen this exact thing happen before and cannot really explain what this weird stuff is. Any ideas?

The 6/1 Dursley unit has now been moved up to Placerville - (Sacramento) area. I will keep it there until I'm ready to travel back to the midwest in July unless someone takes it off my hands. Any interest in this beauty of a generator?

200 hours on original British Lister 6/1 mounted to steel skid with Marathon 5kW head. Ready to run, just add cooling tank. We also have an original British cooling tank (in Kansas) if desired.

Rare Bird !!! and available - This is a first-class build!

Here is a very nice original Dursley CS 6/1 with SOM flywheels coupled to LIMA MAC 5kw dedicated single-phase 120-240 head. Complete system pretty much ready to go. Present location is near Fresno California. Anyone interested? Save some big shipping bucks if you are out West! This is a sale for a fellow's estate, we have a bit more information to gather regarding the restoration but all looks and sounds just great!

Original Lister Cs Engines / SOM restoration project
« on: December 14, 2012, 01:44:10 AM »
Recently received shipment of 3 Dursley CS engines. Two of them are full SOM generating plants and one is just a spare engine. We are going to fully recondition these in our Kansas shop, partially for fun and also to get a bit-by-bit comparison of all the parts to our Indian clone kits. We may offer these for sale once completed if there is any interest.

Stage 1: arrival, cleanup and dismantling. Here is the batch in our shop after preliminary pressure wash. Luckily we had a very warm December day in Kansas, just had to go home with blackface from all the grease and carbon blow-back

First pulled all of the cylinder heads...

Then pulled all the studs... some of them were rusted very badly, but they all came out with the trusty stud puller and a long breaker bar.

Once all studs are out of the way - off with the cylinder blocks. Note the welded-up cylinder on the second machine. All of these parts will be replaced.

Once the jugs were off we could fairly easily pull the pistons, and then connecting rods.

These have the original windage trays and knife-edge dippers. Pretty messy inside here!

Enough for one day... will pull flywheels, valve train and crankshafts tomorrow.

2 original SOM sets with full accessorials and an extra 6/1 to boot.

We spent a lot of time and effort getting this old iron the world tour... soon to be in Kansas for a full restoration.

This took a lot of effort, time, and money. Endless thanks to Philip Cole for his English connections and tremendous amount of help getting this done! A huge effort went into getting these picked up out of farmers fields and back lots in England. Philip and his dad had to work their butts off to get the collections accomplished - tenacity and resourcefulness at its best!

« on: August 01, 2012, 02:29:50 PM »
Anyone know of whereabouts for some governor parts for Lister JK6? ... preferably in the U.K.

Eng no 38JK6R17               1500 RPM            90HP
Alt no 307430     type RF19AK/6  CRPO     70kVA/66kW 0.8pf

I believe the owner is seeking the entire governor assembly.

Many Thanks!
