Listeroid Engines / Engine base dimensions and belts
« on: September 06, 2012, 02:59:59 PM »
I have a Lovson 12/2 with a 7.5kw ST gen head. Its been sitting in my shop for a few years, and I am now getting serious about setting it up. I plan on using 6" I-Beam for the base, but am not sure of the length I will need to mount the engine and gen head for a reasonable belt length. I bought the cd from utterpower when I got the engine, but it does not have any details on base construction. Georges website has a few articles but no dimensions. What belts are you guys using?

Listeroid Engines / Is there a way to pin topics?
« on: April 26, 2009, 10:27:23 PM »
This is a great forum and has lots of useful information. It is not as organized as it could be though. Is there a way to pin the most important topics? For example have one that includes the best threads on balancing the engine, one for frame design, one for trouble shooting the engines etc? I'm trying to be helpful and do not want to offend anyone, just thought if there was a way to do this it would make searching and researching so much easier. There is no one way to do things and unless you know exactly what to search for you could miss the thread that really had the answer you need.

Lister Based Generators / Re: 50hz to 60 hz??
« on: September 30, 2006, 01:14:24 PM »
either run it faster, or change out the driven pulley on the genhead

rewinding is not going to get you there

bob g

Thanks! I knew running it faster would work but had not considered going with the smaller pulley. Just for educational purposes, what is it in the constructtion of the generator that determines the Hz rating? I was thinking it was the number of windings and how they were moved through the magnetic field. Thanks for the simple answer though!

Lister Based Generators / 50hz to 60 hz??
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:00:38 AM »
If I were able to get an original lister generator/SOM what would be required to get 60 hz from it versus the 50 hz it was designed for? Rewind the generator? I know running it at a faster speed would work but I dont want to run the lister beyond what it was designed for. Please keep in mind I am electrically challenged. Forgive me if the answer is simple.

A SOM is a start -matic.

But a start motor on it add a button start and there you go.  Add an acuator of some kind to pull the exhaust release and there you are.

Well yes that is the basic electric start, but I was considering the circuitry to sense the load when it is applied, start the generator, run while needed and then when the load is canceled sense this as well and shut down. This would be handy for circuits which were on a timer, so you did not have to be there eg running a water pump to the garden area. Perhaps I am not explaining what I was thinking well enough. Anyone wanna sell an original start o matic? ;D

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Ebay UK 6-1

I am aware of Ken's shipping to Houston & his offer to accomodate members. I appreciate.

Hate to barge in but am just reading this thread and am wondering when is the shipment from the UK leaving? I am badly wanting an original lister but shipping has detered me. Who might I talk to about this? I have not found the topic on the shipping container.

using the two main components you mention, i don't think you can economically get there from here.

the st head is a slip ring alternator, the only way i am aware of to get it to motor would be by applying a split phase power to the stator and shorting the field. the needed electronics would likely cost far more than adding a starter motor to begin with. and even after doing it i am unsure as to how effective of a starter motor it might be.
this would be a rather costly experiment unless you have alot of electronics background, more information, and a bunch of spare parts, bit and pieces

what are you trying to accomplish, what are your needs specifically?

bob g

Well what I was actually considering was a seperate starter motor. Setting up an electric start is easy enough, it was the sensing setup that has me baffled. I want to have this as my sole power supply in my shop, but would like to be able to flip a switch and have the power come on rather than have to crank the engine every time. I imagine cranking in the dark can be a little hazardous!

Listeroid Engines / Build your own SOM?

Given that I have a Lovson 12/2 and a PS ST gen head, and also that I am electrically challenged, could I build a SOM from this setup and how would I find all the required parts etc?

I have a 12/2 still in crate and want to know if the 10kw head with welder terminals can be used with this engine? I understand that the 12/2 will not do 10KW but will the welder portion work?

Sounds reasonable. Do you have an engine coming?

TPXX -

I was just about to add my congratulations when I figured out that you were the one that slipped up to 1488 ahead of me.  So now, I guess I just have to read your posts and dream of what might have been.  Maybe when you get it running I can stop by and drool.  Of course if you need help just email. I stand ready to see what the inside of a Listeriod looks like.

DaveW

Slipped up ahead of you? Not sure what you mean but I just emailed Jack and he told me what he had. Sorry if you were wanting it too! I will post of my mis-adventures just try not to laugh to hard as this is all new to me. I would kill for someone who had an interest in these engines to live close to me, but I am in northeast Louisiana, not the Houston area, however if you feel like making the drive (5 1/2 hrs.) I'd be happy to have your help! ;D

Gents,
I still haven't found anything obviously wrong.   I am going to reassemble and check the compression again.  Sure wish these things had a glowplug hole I could use for my compression tool.

BTW:  I have taken some pics of the engine today   http://www.anitel.com/lister/

Thanks again for all the assistance to this listeroid virgin...

Just looked at your pictures, acouple of thoughts, there seems to be some rust on one of the pistons, if so that aint right! Is that common and should it be polished before running? second, what did you run the engine on? The other piston is virtually black. For the little bit of run time you had it does not seem like you should have that kind of build up.

Since our engine are "brothers" so to speak, I am very interested to hear what you come up with. I will get some sinkers and check my own head clearance before running the engine. Please let us know the final outcome.

Listeroid Engines / Spare Parts
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:50:28 AM »
Ok Fellas,

Post Up! Given the discussion on the various problems encountered with these engines, I thought it would be good to hear a list of essential spare parts that no self respecting listeroid owner should be with out. So post up and lets hear what you experts think. Also beyond the essentials how about nice to haves or money is no object items (no dont say another engine!) Just trying to educate myself, sorry if this has been addressed!
