Engines / Re: using a gas hot water heater tank to cool lister
« on: August 20, 2007, 04:12:57 PM »
ok what if i used a car type radiator after the hot water tank with a senser to turn a fan on when temp. reaches 190 deg. remember the cooling liquid will be circulating through the middle of the hot water tank first.  now running the exaust gas through another hot water heater, to capture that heat sooting may be a problem i'll have to make it so, a rought time cleaning can be done easy. maybe a tee at the bottom with a removable cap so it could be brushed often, also a drain. i'm sure there will be condencate   problems.       i'll have to give the later some thought. might not be worth the trouble.         sure would be nice to capture that extra heat .i read some where it would be 28000 btus. thats a lot of heat. as for welding plates on the tank ,i've done this before and it  don't ruin the glass liner much. wire welding only heats in a small area.  leaving the anidotate rod in place prevents it from rusting.

Engines / using a gas hot water heater tank to cool lister

has any one used a gas hot water heater tank; to cool the lister; also to make hot water? my lister has a thermostat with bypass. i would weld plates with pipe nipples, where the heat from the fire, hot gas normally goes through the water heater. add a burp tank to this, for expansion. i also wanted to run the exaust through another gas water heater, hook both water sources together with then a batch solar heater to supply my hot water needs. a circulating pump to take the heated water to and from my house. i thought i'd run this by you folks to see what you'all think.

well, what i ended up doing was ; i bought a small metal filter with a return line barb. autozone. they couldnt tell me what micron it is though. i assembled it as follows: both bio tank, and wvo tank lines to the three port valve. the valve i used is off a refridgeration gage set. removed gages plugged there holes and you have a nice manual valve. mounted it upsidedown where the cast filter was. center port to the small filter, and there you have it. i had a heater strip about 2 ft. long, wrapped the injecter and line back to the pump. along the line i added a temp sencer bulb attched to a thermostat. i can adjust the temp exactly where i want it. sence i have plenty of length of heater i'll wrap some of the wvo line going to the valve. havent tried wvo yet , to late, tomorrow morning batt. bank will be lower then, as to put some load on the 6/1. hey guys i'm loving it. thank's for your help.

well, you ansered one of my questions; the line is for excess fuel that was not injected into the engine. now that being the case, it is needed, in saying that, shut down time,[on diesel fuel, or bio in my case] will take longer. i guess the best way to have a two fuel system is to have a small filter in place with return line port on it, have a two port valve ahead of the filter. then you can select what type fuel to be used. down side is that, purging time will increse. guess there's no way around it. any other ideas welcome .

Engines / injector/return line
« on: March 07, 2007, 05:32:17 AM »
need some information regarding the injector return line. does this return line, the plastic one [on mine anyway] need to be hooked up? it makes it a little more difficult if i have to use it on wvo conversion. the way i see it you would have to have a switching valve here also. any way its in the way to put the heating element in place. i havent seen any pictures of the conversion's or seen were any one has talked about this. the way i see it is it's there just to get air out of the line. am i correct with this thinking? help please!

Waste Motor Oil / Re: Waste Motor Oil Refining
« on: February 25, 2007, 07:18:36 PM »
has any one built a centerfuse for cleaning oil? i'd like to build one. pictures speak a thousand words. every one has some used crankcase oil to get rid of. i'd like to run it in my 6/1 lister for power. can any one help us with this? do we need to mix it with bio, veggy oil? i figure that we would have to heat the injecter line. i'd like to see some pictures of how you all are heating injecter lines . i know you can heat them by electric, or by heat from the cooling system. i've ordered an electric element but have'nt got it yet.  thank's to you all that respond.

Generators / Re: Automotive Alternators as Generator Heads?
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:49:02 AM »
thought i'd give my experance with alternators, i run a 24v 90 amp alternator with a 6/1 lister. i like it better than running a 3600 rpm gen head. i charge the batt,s direct. i have a trace 36/24 inverter. the trace never lets the batt, bank go below 21v. running my house off grid, i usually run the 6/1 lister about 450rpm's 7, to 8 hrs a day. i use bio fuel now. i'm in the process of heating the injector line so i can run stright wvo. the 3600rpm gen head seams to make a lot more noise , also more pull on engine. it's a 4500w head. i tried a old military 3ph 110v,1200rpm head. i didnt like the lights flashing with every stroke of the engine. you see with a trace inverter the gen voltage goes through the inverter as long as the generator is running. the downside is that i'm not being able to use the batt charger that is built into the inverter.  any way i like the way i'm charging the batt's now with the 24v 90amp alternator.

thanks to : biobill, joe, doug, ronmar. i am greatful for all that responded. and joe i did email george. i didnt get a email back yet. i just called sam and left a call back number so i'll wate to hear from him. i do have a mike, and dial indcator with base i will use thease to load bearings. i also have gasket cutting tools, and will make them if i have to. i've checked the bearing supplyer and they couldn't match the seals. i've heard i could re use my headgasket. i'd call george but i don't have his phone number. hope sam returns my call soon. in the mean time cleaning parts to get it back togeather, and back off the [ grid]. i built a biodiesel reactor and using fuel that i make to power a 24v,95amp alternator this works perty good. and have a trace 36/24 inverter. i dont have a sd generator head yet. that trace has it's own charger built in. for now i just charge batt bank direct. i wish some one sold sd heads around hear so i could save money on shipping. let me know if any one in my area sales thease. central illinois. i think running a sd head would be more effecient, cause the batt bank would be charged while also suppling power. any way that's the way the trace inverter works. and ronmar, too much pre-loading wasn't the problem, casting sand in the bearing cover was. i scraped out plenty. like i said do your own work and you won't be disadified with others.

well, take your engine apart your self to clean casting sand. i wont disclose how much i paid to have this done. didn't think i had the time. well guess what happened after 140hours of run time? stupid...is the first word that comes to mind sucker another. last but not least never, never again will this happen to me. any way thank God, that one crank bearing was all that was ruined. by the way crank bearings cost 70some odd $ .                                                                      now, i'm asking for some help, from all of you. could you point me in the right direction to buy a gasket set and also the crank oil seals? i also need to know how to load the tapered crank bearings. any one that takes pitty on me and can supply me with this info , this would be nice!  email or post or both j.ossowski@yahoo.com
