Listeroid Engines / Re: why did you buy a listeroid?

Well, now that you asked.....
Initially I hope to move from subdivision to boonies, get a fixer-upper (I buy, repair, sell rehab houses on the side) and go off-grid (well, septic, and electric) and power the house with it. I guess I'd be looking at a 25/2 or so because I'll need a 15KW genset to do the whole house (including Florida central A/C). Hopefully I'll learn from this forum what to consider. With cost of living going up I'm trying to go the other way - no bills. So I plan to run the Lister on WVO. I already drive a 99 Ford F250 PSD that I hope to convert to WVO soon. After my fun N games, I plan to move to the Dominican Republic  and do the same (but with two as I plan to build a 9000 sqft home there). Having your own power can be more of a necessity there.

But some of the uses you guys are talking about (shop prime mover, etc.) sounds quite interesting too.

Hey folks, newbie here don't have a Lister[OID] yet but hope to soon. Saw this post and thought now as good a time to join as any because:

My first car was a 64 Buick Riviera (63 was maiden year) with a 340 HP 425 CI V8. Got about 12 MPG. My next car was a 71 Spitfire that went through 3 clutches and a couple 3rd gear synchros (you're right about the crappy tranny Tom), but that thing took corners like it was on rails and I drove it with the top down even in winter. People would look at me funny when they saw snowflakes blowing by but they didn't realize the windshield kept the breeze away and heat was just pouring in from the removeable boot they put in the transmission tunnel (so you could remove it through the cabin; guess they realized you'd be changing clutches so often).

Only old rifle I used was an M14 for parade duty while in the Army. Only got to clean it (over and over) and take bayonet training with it. But I did get to shoot my Dad's Marlin .35 in the 70s. Big gun go boom.
