Generators / Re: ST Generator Efficiency ?
« on: December 06, 2023, 06:18:59 PM »
Interesting topic…A quick search gave me Power (kW) = Torque (Nm) x RPM / 9550 so need to measure torque on shaft and rpm, there are shaft power meter, but those I found was for ships propeller shaft.Output power is simple to measure by power meter then divide that by shaft power and exaction power. Warning if answer is greater than 1 you found free energy and will either receive a Nobel prize or hunted by big power company, most likely math is wrong

First thought: high resistance due to bad connection, check resistance

Do you have picture(s) of the wires coming out of the generator and external diodes?

Hi,
That sound like a brushless generator, two parts rotor with diodes in between.That also means two part startor, one part sends field current to rotor and other part power out.If this sounds right, I would check resistance of the field part of the stator first, if ok, I would flash it like a normal generator

Listeroid Engines / Re: 3k Chinese alternator just stopped mid run

1 -> D positive
3 -> B negative2 and 4 -> A and C alternating so it don't matter which goes where
never seen such rectifier before, 99% sure they used red as positive and black as negative

I found this document in Finnish https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/161432205.pdf
DIESELGENERAATTORIN OHJAUS-PANEELIN TOIMINTAPERIAATE JA KORJAUS Lister Start-o-matic by
Veli-Matti Kulo describing exactly what you are looking for. google translate works

I have plans of modernizing Startomatic myself just need a Lister with a Brush generator that is not collection only in GB,
I really like the relay logic and the simplicity,
I've seen that many worry about the quality of the output and don't want to power modern electronic with this,
my plan is to use an online UPS between the Lister and electronic devices

Engines / Re: Earthing Solenoid on a LPWS4

Looks like the earthing solenoid is there to disconnect battery negative from engine for protection against galvanic corrosion since this a marine version.Also relay 11 controls both glowplug relay and earthing solenoid

I agree that picture would help, even that of circuit diagram…

Skin effect only applies to alternating current, so nothing to worry about before you get over the kHz range, direct current use all of the conductor

Hi, my name is Thomas, I'm from Norway and I'm new here.
I don't have an Lister engine, but I like to have one  ;)
I've been searching for Lister Start-o-Matic for a while now and always end up here.
I don't find any in Norway…
I've studied the schematics of Start-o-Matic and got a fairly good understanding of it .
