Engines / Alpha LPWS cylinder head resurface
« on: February 18, 2023, 08:19:29 PM »
In another post Dieselgman makes the comment “Your LPWS head cannot easily be resurfaced and the usual fix is a new cylinder head”

Does anyone know why this is. Is it different for the LPW head?

Engines / Alpha LPW/S water pump sleeve seals
« on: February 16, 2023, 12:19:58 PM »
This probably a silly question but there is no mention of it in the manual. The sleeve 751-40441 between the water pump and cylinder head has two o ring seals shown on the parts list. To get at the inner one do I just waggle the sleeve about and pull the sleeve out? It seems pretty rigid to me. Will it be corroded in?

Engines / Lpws2 injector removal
« on: December 16, 2022, 09:29:31 PM »
I have a 400 series build 48 lpws2 engine and I want to check the head gasket. I need to take out the injectors 751-60290. (This the type with the 2 pipes sticking up on each side). It is recommended to use a special socket which I don’t have (it is £180!)
The boat and engine are a distance away so I was wondering if anybody new
What size socket I will need?
Can  modify a standard long reach socket?

Thanking you in anticipation

Engines / Paint Removal LPW
« on: January 09, 2022, 11:05:05 PM »
I’ve broken down my engine and removed all the grey paint from the aluminium parts of my engine. I thought this was going to be the tricky part. I am now onto the iron head and block but having difficulty getting the red undercoat/primer off underneath the grey. I’m planning to paint with POR15 engine enamel. Does anybody have any suggestions to get it down to bare metal?

Engines / LPW2 Build 902 change fixed to variable speed
« on: December 04, 2021, 08:50:39 PM »
I am a newbie to the forum. I already have a LPWS2 in my narrowboat which I love and am now rebuilding a LPW2 as a spare and out of interest. I now have it in bits with all the parts in labelled icecream cartons and it looks in good condition apart from needing a rebore as a ring has broken and gouged the cylinder. All journals and bearings look fine except for the big end bearings which i will replace. The engine was used to blow rockwool insulation into the cavity walls of houses and was mounted inside a truck

I am rebuilding 05000267 LPW2 A902 for my narrowboat. The nameplate says 9Kw 2000rpm so although it is an 02 build it is fixed speed.
I want convert it to variable speed.
I am happy with most of the alterations including weights, speeder spring, governor sleeve.
According to my parts manual there are 3 different Governor Lever Assemblies for the LPW2 and the only one for an 02 build is 750-10182 together with thrust collar 751-12823 which is the one I've been offered for variable speed.
Does anyone know by any chance which Governor Lever Assembly and thrust collar I might have and whether I could alter it or will I need to purchase a new one.
Thank You. Robert
