Engines / Re: White smoke, pump timing
« on: November 22, 2023, 06:13:15 PM »
"BTW- for those following my exploits.....the toilet-paper oil filter works just fine".

I have read alot of positive things about the toilet paper filter.. Do not think I have found anyone who has used one say they have had a bad exeperience or experienced any engine wear or damage using one.  Do you have any pics of the install of the filter?  I have a 12/2 clone I may want to try one on.
You can pm the pics if you took any and willing to send..

So what you are saying is you only shimmed cyl #2 pump ?  That may explain why smoking in only one cylinder, if the shimming of the #2 fixed it.  Nice fix..

Could you share any details on how you modified the factory camshaft? Did you drill new holes to move the lobes?  Thanks.

The pics do not look like it is in terrible shape.. :). It just might have some potential.. I think others have brought worse back to life.. But inside will tell the real story.. As I said you can read for a week straight here, and with all the good info here you will be alot more educated on what you have.. I know it worked for me after reading for a year before my fist purchase.. I hope it turns out to be pretty good for you..

Has it been sitting outside uncovered for awile? (A few years or more)  Post some pictures when you start digging in to it..  They are fairly simple engines to work on..  I have two now. A 12/2 CS clone. From p.m. diesels in India.. And a Metro CS 6/1 roid type..  12/2 is a few weeks from running. But it was an easy rebuild as it was stored inside for 15 years with about 10 hours runtime.. A bunch of things had to be corrected. A couple things I was not setup to do, A well known shop in my area did a bit of the machining type work.

Water in the engine for a long time is not going to look pretty when you tear it down.. Your engine may have the replaceable liners ?  Which helps.. But still expensive.. You eill probably find a gallon or so sitting undr the oil when you pull the drain plug.. Hopefully the water did not get up as high as the crankshaft.. unlikely but possible.. You will have to take it down to bare block and clean it up and see how it looks. I wish you good luck and hope it is not to bad..

You will probably spend quite a few $$ getting parts for it.. As the days of inexpensive pistons and rings, bearings lifters, valves guides and springs were peanuts back then.. are long gone.. Prices are pretty rediculous actually for what you are getting..  They have not improved the parts much since they started.. So you are buying the same camshaft lifters etc that were in the engines imported here 25-30 years ago.. But you are paying alot more $$ for the same kind of crap parts.

Not trying to dicourage you at all and hope it works out..  It  just will not be as cheap as it used to be.. Take it fully apart and inspect everything ,including knocking out all the cast iron slag and cleaning sand from the crankcase. Do not order any parts until you see what you are working with. This is just my opinion and ymmv.. But there is a ton of reading you can do here on the forum to see alot of the problems the India people caused themselves. In the 40 years they have been producing parts and engines copied from the original english engines, they have screwed up way more than they improved.. As far as india lister engines are concerned, they simply do not care.. And put almost zero effort in quality control.

Listeroid Engines / Re: How To Choose A Radiator
« on: September 11, 2023, 08:08:13 PM »
I don't mean to go off topic in this thread... But I am gonna a little bit.  Sorry sir petteroid...

Cujet I have read quite a few of your posts over the last few years... I know you have been around here since the beginning.. My question is were you one of the original fella's to make the hollow oil dippers ? I know xyzer was one as well. Was wondering if you have them installed in your engines?

Thanks.. and sorry again op..

Cujet, that is a great setup. Run's really nice. Is that a small 120 volt pump near the generator end underneath the overflow tank? I hope to keep mine compact like that when finished.

Changfa Engines / Re: Changfa 1115 knocking

Also maybe double check that the flywheel nut is properly tightened..

And also the nuts that hold the pulley on to the flywheel.
If either of these have loosened a bit, it will make some pretty loud knocking..

But as others have said these engines knock during startup to full speed..  Nature of the beast with these engines.

Mobile bob on this forum has met Bill rodgers the author of that book a few times.. He was going to ask the him about releasing more copies. As I wanted that book about a year ago, and it is no longer on amazon kindle or anywhere else.. I never really persued it after that. Kinda of forgot about it until this post about it.

It must be on a pdf format somewhere if it was once for sale on Amazon..

But Mobile Bob would be the guy to ask..  Maybe send him a pm.

Changfa Engines / Re: Changfa s1115 value?
« on: July 08, 2023, 05:43:02 PM »
Cost you about $800-1000 to ship that $200 engine to the US.  I would grab that that engine if I were you and that is what you are looking for. I dont know where you are from but $500 is pretty reasonable asking price for a new s1115 engine.

It is hard to see, but looks like the engine tag says SR2. ?? Just wondering..

They are diesels.. they do put out black smoke for a few seconds.. They most likely are adding some additives to the fuel.. Some top secret bio diesel??  I wound not think they are going to modify all those diesels to run on gasoline.

I have the ST1 complete service manual in pdf form. It describes what you are asking on pages 59-61..

It looks like forum will not let me upload the complete document.. But I can copy and paste the link .. try this..

Listeroid Engines / Re: 12/2 Gib key will not budge
« on: January 14, 2023, 11:31:20 PM »
''I had a stuck gib-key.  Nothing would move it.  So, I wound up machining a jig that fit perfectly into the key-way. Then, I spotted and drilled a "pilot hole" in the jig, that would keep the drill bit perfectly centered in the jig, ergo also the key.  A long drill bit of ~ 3/8 inch (I really don't remember) drilled it out.  I saved that jig in the Listeroid "fix-it" box, just in case I needed it again.''

That is a great tip.. In fact I was almost going to do something like that for one of the flywheels.
