   At last,something I know at least a little about. At one of the boiler operations where I worked we had a chain-float- weight system. Pins through the links in the chain activated or cut off the well pump. Guy's chain- bobweight thingy. We used a painted "zone" on the side of the tank with the weight to tell if level was ok.If you have the pump on a pressure switch already,a stock tank float should work to keep the tank full.A flag on a lever would indicate level from a distance.

    Who is Mr Belk,and what does he have to do with engines?
   I realise I ain't very smart,and we all want our engines to run as efficiently as possible.We eventualy reach a point where the effort ,and expense are not justified by the returns. Simple solution ,if ya want more power from a Lister-Listeroid,buy a bigge one.Too much whooing ,and haaaahhhing over theroreticalpoints that in the long run don't amount to spitting in the dirt as far as real work engines are concerned.
   Makes me tired to read it

   Tom may be on to something, Rumely used that system early in the last century in their famous "Oil Pull" tractors.They used the exaust blast to create draft in the radiator,,,,no fan.
   Guy, if a head gasket went,wouldn't the volume of oil drawn into the cylinder tend to drownd the engine? I don't know that much about diesele,wouldn't it just suck a cylinder full,then push it back out on the compression stroke,never really building much compression?See,I told you I didn't know much,shoot,I dont even know which way to turn one overto start,but I'm a learnin

   I'de like to make a comment here. Years ago,I was doing some investigations into methane as an ae source. I found an article by a guy names "John Fry " from South Africa,a pig farmer who ran what appeared to be a Lister from the rather poor photo on methane,and just enoufh diesel for starting,and top lube. If I remember right,he used a valved line from the storage tank to the engine intake with some seel wool in it for a flame stop I think.
   Sorry ,I don't remember the source,but I think It all started from an article in MEN.

   "Want to weed out the Listeroid wannabes " well,that takes care of me. I don't have one yet,and with the EPA thing ,I may not be able to get one . Does that mean I'm not welcome,how about the other guys who discover Listers,and cant get one?  You guys sound just like Dr Suese's "Star Bellied Sneeches"
   I don't suppose that old IHUD9 that I got rusting quietly out back counts huh? Just a tad to fast ------OH well

   Hey guys,
   I live in northeastern N. C. and was wondering if there was anyone close by with an engine that would allow a visit . I would like to see one in person,fumble with it ,check it out. I promise not to wreck it ,or drink any of your adult bevs.
   KINDA USING rALIEGH ,AND rICHMOND AS THE WESTERN EDGE ABOUT THE SAME DISTANCE NORTH AND OR SOUTH WOULD PROBABLY WORK OK....OOOOOPPPS
