General Discussion / E5 or E10 for a Lister D
« on: September 12, 2021, 12:06:48 PM »
Not sure if this is the right place for this question but...now that we are being encouraged to use 'cleaner' petrol I am wondering whether my Lister D will notice the difference between E5 and E10. My instinct is to buy the higher octane E5 but happy to hear your views.

Many thanks.

Engines / Lister D now running....but small fuel leak
« on: August 18, 2021, 06:43:00 PM »
After a year's work my Lister D is now reassembled, repainted and running. She sits nicely on her new trolley that I made as well. She fired first time which was great!

Only thing is there's a small drip from the fuel pipe where it enters underneath the float chamber. I have removed the fuel pipe and carefully rubbed down the tapered olives but the seal is still not complete. I have also carefully used wire wool gently inside the unions.  The issue, I'm pretty sure, is the end of the pipe because when I reverse it the drip is from the fuel tank end.

PTFE tape is not ideal for such things so I am wondering if I should just buy a new pipe or if any one of you good people had any other suggestions.

Many thanks as always.

Engines / Lister D Carburettor Strip Down
« on: July 04, 2021, 05:42:36 PM »
Good afternoon all

My Lister D project is making steady progress but I am struggling to completely dismantle the carburettor. I want to remove the needle valve and the screw fitting for the spring valve to check they are functioning correctly. Also, I'd like to check inside the float chamber that all is well and cannot remove the inner components. Can anyone advise me please? Pictures attached.

Many thanks.

Engines / Gaskets - how thick?
« on: June 11, 2021, 02:37:35 PM »
I'm not happy with the cardboard gaskets supplied by Stationary Engine Parts - too thin and badly fitting in my view.

I'm going to buy some gasket sheet.  What thickness would forum members recommend for a Lister D please?

Many thanks.

Engines / Dismantling Lister D Governor mechanism
« on: May 14, 2021, 01:51:38 PM »
Could someone help this newbie please?

I have now decided to dismantle the governor mechanism to enable me to better clean and paint around the bottom of the cylinder block on my Lister D.

I have a couple of exploded diagrams but they're hazy to say the least.  Does anyone have any diagrams or, even better, advice on how to do this please?

Everything else / Chasing threads
« on: May 06, 2021, 10:15:30 AM »
Good morning.

I am fairly new here and still finding my way.  I am Andrew, I live in Wiltshire and just over a year ago I acquired a 1949 Lister D which I am cleaning up and part restoring.  I say 'part' because it is in quite good order, none seized.

At the moment I am cleaning up the main body including repainting.  In order to get a tidy paint job the engine is mostly stripped down although I have left the governor in place as I am not confident enough to strip this out and there is no evidence yet that it is not working.

Anyway, enough waffle!  Some of the studs and nuts on the plate above the magneto need 'chasing'.  I have a Zeus guide and I am happy to but a set of Whitworth taps/dies but is everything on the engine Whitworth please?

Also I am struggling to find my way around the Zeus just now and wondered if there's a guide anywhere that lists the sizes of all the D's nuts and bolts etc.

Thank you in anticipation of your help.
