Everything else / Water pump lubrication

Good afternoon all, just wondering if any one on here could point me in the right direction as to what lubricating oil those “domestic style” belt driven water pumps use? Im guessing normal SAE 30 but not 100% sure??
Thanks in advance
Mick

Thanks guys, yes part no 16 is what im on about. I have done a bit more digging and i have come to the conclusion that its getting refitted mainly because it was there in the first place, and its not going to do any harm anyway. Looks like i will have to renew the oil seal as well. Thanks again chaps.

Evening all. Can anyone confirm that there should be a steel oil ring at the gear end of the camshaft (Not crankshaft) on my 1960 LD1 as there was one fitted behind the oil seal when i stripped the engine. I have heard it should be there and also been told it should not be there. I have checked the parts book and there is no sign of one there. Just need to be sure for when i put it back together. Thanks.

Thanks guys.
Confession time.........
I have just bought a 1959 ex mixer LD1 engine to go with my green 1974 LR1. There is quite a bit yellow and green on it, but i thought whats the harm in painting it all safety yellow!
Cheers

Good evening,

Just a quick question did the diesel listers fitted to cement mixers receive yellow paint as opposed to the more usual green?

Thanks

Hi cobbadog
Yes the oilways are clear. I have generously lubricated them and shafts and got them ready for fitting back to the engine

Hi cobbadog
I'm going to try a different oil such as straight sae 40 as I'm using 15w40 oil at the moment. Will assemble rockers then change oil. Will keep in touch.

Sorry for any confusion but I have checked with a Lister specialist and the rocker posts are correct. I'm currently using 15w40 oil so maybe it's the oil so will reassemble and try straight 40 instead and go from there.

Cheers

Hello guys,
I have stripped the rockers on the lr1 only to find the oilways clear as a bell. However....
It would appear the rocker posts may be incorrect, apparently they were redesigned around 1969 and the ones on my engine are stamped LD. But my engine was built in 1974. I think i may need to source a pair of later style rockers to fit. Whats your thoughts on this please?

Cheers

Hi Bob

Yes oil pumps out the pipe at the top tee piece when the engine is turned but not out the rocker levers themselves.

Thanks for letting me know about the restrictor too!

Will let you know how it goes.

Engine is LR1 diesel. I have removed the rockers ready for stripping down and cleaning. I like you think the problem lies in the rocker assemblies now.

Will let you know how it goes later in the week.

Cheers.

Anyone had any problems with oil not coming out on to the rocker levers when running. I have oil coming up to the top via feed pipe but not out the oilways in the levers.
