Hi Gentles

New project is going. Today making the camshaft extention to fit starting handle. Made also the dog and weld it to an adapted crank.

2 pic for the enthusiasts.

Cheers

PS: now it only needs a steel spring pin.

Hi Gentles

Remember my torque wrenches? The big one has its new locknut, and the small was out of spec.

Both taken to the metrology Lab of ISQ (see: https://www.isq.pt/EN/services/metrology/) and certified (see seals).

This Lab is internationally renowned.

Be safe.

General Discussion / Re: Car engine ignition conversion
« on: January 22, 2020, 02:19:04 PM »
Hi Gentles

In my little or no experience, and above all, given your admiralty knowledge, there is a conclusion I geted: to get a voltage stable genhead, I need to have a heavy flywheel, or other weight to preserve the momentum. Of course it would be best to have low rpm to extend engine's life.

Another conclusion I could get in most of LEF´s threads, is the start key of any engine must have - at least - more than 2kg, I mean a starting handle (I'm not referring big ships) . (forget SOM, a good stationary engine must be attended)

Ever you ever thougted the luck we have to tweak "nowadays" a 6/1, or a 12/2, or other low rpm engine. They are machines builted for life. (How many mechanics did you had 50 years ago in the middle of australia to give assistence?)

Just my thoughts for this thread.

Listeroid Engines / Re: EPA Regulations

Hi Tan

"If you are not the original engine/equipment manufacturer"... "as long as they are still substantially in their original configurations"

A replica its not "original" even after 21....25....or more years.

I think you can import a Lister (old iron) CS, JP, FR or other, but.... (see) but not a Listeroid.

But (again) nothing like to ask to your near customs how they read that article...

Changfa Engines / Re: How to remove fuel injection pump in 295d engine ?
« on: January 12, 2020, 04:10:29 PM »
Hi Mike

Some IP are lubricated by fuel (diesel or WVO [this last too thick to lubricate]) if IP is rotating type IP, just 1 plunger.
But if IP is inline cam (multiplunger) with lobs acting in plunger element, they are lub by oil, thin oil.

Take a look at Bosh and CAV tech. Bosh (some) are lub by fuel (others, i.e, kiki (nippon bosh) are plunger). CAV (I think) are most multi plunger.

Just my thoughts.............

a few more...

Hi Gentles

Winter goes calm, the project of projects is finished (only the cooling tank and the proper kart are missing).

A few more occasional repairs: to another electric pump, give the old man's compressor a good overhaul, restore (if it can be) a dynastarter.

There is also a half-stopped project, let's see it gets somewhere, or just for scrap - for now it only spents my time, some oil retainers, a few ball bearings and special screws. At least I made a new tool for putting valve collets.

A few pics maybe give a better idea.
