Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Barrel shim - more info
« on: March 17, 2020, 07:54:20 PM »
Hi Steve

My apologies to not answer earlier but I missed your post.

Distance between the crown and head is measured global, Take a close look to my thread, here: https://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=8320.msg102498#msg102498

First you fit cylinder and be sure piston is not above face of cylinder. Put head gasket, soldering wire, and head on top.

Torque all down to spec. widthrow head and measure tin with calliper. Adjust bottom cylinder shims, remove if too high, add if to low (the head!).

Any questions...

Cheers

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Resurrection of a Lister 12/2
« on: March 07, 2020, 08:20:06 AM »
Hi Snow

No, just renewing the wrapping.

To do - if - new rewind I'll go to the specialized shop (see here): https://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=8333.msg102277#msg102277

It was where I got wrap materials.

Engines / Re: LR1 Won't start - Why?
« on: March 05, 2020, 09:11:45 PM »
Hi Peter

You are struggling with that engine. A LR1 is supposed to be very straightforward.

If, and I remark if, everything is in place: turns freely, bump clearance set, time marks in place, IP spills ok at delivery valve, high pressure line ok, injector (needed new?? really?) spill ok (cleaned? squeaks? sprays?).

New fuel tank! Cap has the tiny hole to respiration?

So, it must run... unless it wants to take a ride to the witch.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Barrel shim - Wellcome to LEF
« on: March 04, 2020, 10:42:31 PM »
Hi Steve

Absolutely right! Shim and gasket are in order to set the bump clearance - distance between piston crown and head.

Any help needed, just whistle.

Hi Gentles

Today I looked to may press, and realised it is an amazing tool, not only for bushing or bearing, but also to glue my shoe!

Nothing like a pic...

Listeroid Engines / Re: gasket for the 6/1 - which side up? - FWIW
« on: February 24, 2020, 10:54:29 PM »
Gentles

FWIW - cylinder head gaskets of original CS Lister (single or twin [2xsingle]) ONLY can go one way - because there are no symmetrical faces, unless you open new guide holes

"The worst blind is the one who doesn't want to see", says a popular saying.

If the help didn't help, I gave the best help I have.

If it wasn't the best, I don't have another one. A different one, I just have a little prayer to ask wisdom to the lord.

Stay safe

PS: By the way Bob (aka Ajaffa1) gave an interview asking for bricks and cement to help rebuilding his home, and others too. Maybe he got better opinion about that gasket.
