Listeroid Engines / Group order from India
« on: June 17, 2020, 04:06:11 PM »
Hello all,

I have been talking with a representative from Fieldmarshal in India for a few weeks and have also gotten an import letter from CBP in the u.s. to get listeroids into the country in a mostly complete configuration and was wondering if anyone was interested in getting some 6/1s? I'm working on getting the shipping straightened out. But can get some final numbers put together if there is some interest. I'm not doing it to get rich, I just want to get a new listeroid at a good price for myself and it's cheaper if I can do a small container vs. one engine. Happy to talk over more details if anyone is interested.

Found this on craigslist, seems like a decent deal if it works. I'm not looking for another engine right now but thought another member might enjoy it.

So I've been on a learning journey of alternative power for a few years now. That is what lead me to this forum. Through my research I have found a theme of "fandom" of alternative energy ie solar, wind ect. however, for a lot of people these types of power producers are not practical. For example, I live in a residential neighborhood with lots of trees so wind and solar on my house would be an absolute joke. Hydro is not an option either (as it is for most people). That left me with one choice a backup generator. I scored a 5kw diesel Yanmar L100 engine about 2 years ago for $400 with 1 hour on it (retails for 4-6k). After the fact I started to do the math of how many gallons of fuel I would go through to keep that sucker running in a power outage, I was quickly discouraged and realized I could only keep it running for a couple days at most with my on hand fuel supply. This lead me to do a lot more research and I discovered an old gem, the Delco-light farm power plant. This has to be one of the oldest commercially sold home power systems. At that time (1920s) there was no PV or wind generators to slap on your roof. But there were good old lead acid batteries and engines with generators/alternators. These systems were solid and gave many years of useful service. This concept seems to be the best option for long term (1 week +) power outages. Pick the fuel efficient generator of your choice coupled with an inverter-charger, batter bank, inverter charger, and a transfer switch and you have a pretty simple and solid backup power system. I figure for $1.5k you can get a fair amount of 6v golf cart batteries, another $1k for a good inverter-charger, hook that to a manual transfer switch ($200) and a generator that needs a little work can be picked up very cheap. You will have a system that will kick the shorts out of just a plain backup generator or a PV/wind system (depending on location). All for the cost of a good new generator at retail price. So I'm planning on selling a few of my generators I have and putting those funds in to a battery bank and inverter-charger. I would love any input, comments, or rebuttals on this style of system so I can improve my plan.

I'm open to offers and trades on this setup. I'ts a NOS Jin Dong 1115, I've only put an hour on it maybe. The head is a genuine stamford single phase 110/220 dual bearing head. It's all sitting on a nice frame with tensioner and heavy duty air filled casters that reduce the vibration really well.

Listeroid Engines / EPA Regulations
« on: January 21, 2020, 07:20:25 PM »
Have you guys read this:

EPA Regulations
§ 1068.315 Permanent exemptions for imported engines/equipment.
*** * *
(i) Ancient engine/equipment exemption.
If you are not the original engine/equipment manufacturer, you may import nonconforming engines/ equipment that are subject to a standard-setting part and were FIRST (emphasis mine) manufactured at least 21 years earlier, as long as they are still substantially in their original configurations.

Would the word FIRST there not make it legal to import replicas of engines over 21 year old!

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Onan 9 MDKAV
« on: November 02, 2019, 02:58:43 PM »
So I just unexpectedly won an online auction for an Onan 9kw MDKAV marine diesel genset. 1800rpm low hours 3 cylinder Kubota powered. However it needs a raw water supply to run, has anyone tried adapting something like this to stationary use? The inlet is only a 1” tube for the raw water intake this heat exchanges with a closed coolant system on the genset. Open to creative ideas and will post pictures once I go pick it up.

Everything else / Pictures on the Forum
« on: October 13, 2019, 04:04:24 PM »
Is there some magic trick to get pictures to post on this forum? I've tried shrinking them and converting them to different file types and it still feels like it's about a 60-40 chance it won't post. Any suggestions?

Listeroid Engines / Youtuber with almost 15,000 hours of WMO running
« on: October 03, 2019, 12:09:16 AM »
Does anyone know this guy? He is putting a ton of hours on his listeroid and running all kinds of mixed used oils exclusively for fuel. He's charging a battery bank, making hot water for his house, and heating his house, pretty awesome.
