Engines / LR1 High Speed Shaft Oil Seal
« on: October 16, 2019, 05:54:48 AM »
Can the oil seal behind the cast aluminium fan be removed without removing the crankshaft? I am having problems removing the lube oil pump pressure relief valve and the main bearings seem to be OK, so was just going to change the big end bearings and the seals on the output shafts. I only intend to use the engine as a display so it won't see a lot of work.

Engines / Australian Lister LR1 Decal
« on: September 26, 2019, 04:22:52 AM »
While pondering my next move over a cold stubby of 150 Lashes I noticed the very faded Lister Decal was different to any other I'd seen, it seems to have a sphere under the tail of the L, maybe it could be a world globe. Mr Google hasn't come up with anything resembling it, see photo.

Hi, As I'm new here I'm trying to put a handle on the term Listeroids, just what are they, what does the term mean?

Engines / Lister with a wobble
« on: May 30, 2019, 04:49:17 AM »
I have a Lister D to restore, but when running has a bit of wobble in the fly wheel and shaft. There's a bit of noise going on that sounds like it's coming from the bottom end. Does this indicate a bent shaft, or could it be a bearing issue. Just want to know what to look for as I'm stripping it down. I do intend to replace all parts that could be worn out, but don't want to replace the bearing only to find the shaft is bent.
Thanks in advance,

General Discussion / Lister sheep shearing and crutching plant
« on: May 10, 2019, 01:22:28 AM »
I have a lister shearing plant to restore, and I'm wondering about the date of production. Although it consists mostly of angle iron the bearing housings and tumbling tommy clutch assembly all have lister in the castings or engraved on the brass covers. I have most of the plant, frame, engine and cooling water tank, but I'm told they didn't all start life together. The complete plant photo is from a museum, not the unit I have. Any information about these plants of leads to parts such as the down tubes would be much appreciated.
