I really hate to part with it, but only to fund another project, I am selling a fully restored and rebuilt Lister 12-2 with heavy flywheels.  This is a very nice piece that was found in rare condition.  So many times I have seen hammered on valve tappets and vice gripped nuts.  Nothing like that here.  This is a fine and excellent example that has received many complements.  Sale is for the engine only.  Cooling tank not included.

You have watched my restoration process here on the forum;

Available in Central Illinois for pickup or can ship.  Will ship for $250 crating and all costs.

$5250.

Put the belt on the other way.  Still climb the same direction?

Brakes?  We don't need no stinking brakes...

I've run into a problem with my electrical connection.  It has to do with hooking into my single phase / 3 phase system.

The normal connection is single phase (utility feed) goes into the main distribution panel.  There, lighting, outlets, and all normal connections (circuit breakers) are made.  I also feed the RPC (rotary phase converter).  That feeds a 240 3 phase distribution panel, a transformer, then into a 480 3 ph panel.

The generator is 208 3ph, so the logical connection is directly into the 3 ph panel.  Then, how do I back feed the single phase panel to power lighting?  I could switch the generator back to single phase and feed the main panel, but the losses would be excessive.  The generator has 2/3rds capacity when wired this way, then it gets turned back into 3 ph.

Will get it sorted out, sooner or later.

Lister Based Generators / Re: Exchanging flywheels between 6/1 and 10/2
« on: October 07, 2012, 01:31:32 AM »
Bottleveg,
The guy that did this conversion on this 12-2 has passed away (George Helmuth).  As I recall, Hoover's in PA (a Lister dealer to the Amish community near Lancaster) was involved.  Although it may only have been to machine in and fit the taper bushings.  Beyond that, I do not know.

The Poly barrel is for show only, not for a working, permanant installation.  Running the engine for demo it helps keep it warm.  I have had two engines sharing a barrel.  Running w/o load the water gets hot, but not to the point of any concern.

I agree that a serpentine belt over the flywheel will work just fine.  You might get a chirp at start-up, but advantages far outweigh the use of V belts.

Here is a 12-2 with heavy wheels.

However this was done to address a specific problem and not stock.  This engine ran an Amish wood shop.  They were getting speed variation that was showing up in the wood finishing on the lathes and saws.  The heavy wheels were added to address this.  Note the taper lock hubs and the pulley bosses cast into the flywheels.  I have never seen that on any other CS Lister.  They ran it until the crankshaft broke due to excessive loading.  The drive pulley was mounted at the extreme end of the crankshaft.  Over time it fatigued and broke the crank just inboard of the flywheel.  Pictures are posted somewhere here on the forum.

K section poly v belts are easy to make.  I have made several by starting with a multi belt V belt pulley, machining off the sheves, then cutting the new grooves in.  A straightforward lathe project.

Everything else / Re: Portland Show
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:09:36 AM »
I just got back from the Portland 2012 show.  I met Jean Desgartens (?) a regular poster on Smokestack.  He had a 3.5 CS Lister and a generator rig that I believe he was delivering to a customer there.  That was the only Lister I saw.  Certainly no Bamfords either.  I was told that there was a Ruston there but I could not find it.

I ordered another gun.  She does not know about that.

I can snap a picture of the generator.  It is back out to the shop.
